This morning an article about a bill called “The Tribal Firearm Access Act” sponsored by Representative Mary Peltola came to our attention. This bill aims to right a historical wrong for Native Americans that live on Tribal lands who cannot use their legally issued Tribal identification to purchase a firearm from an FFL dealer. Representative Peltola sums it up best:

“In Alaska, firearms are an essential tool for subsistence and self-defense alike,” Peltola said in a statement. “Tribal identification cards are already valid for a variety of uses, including boarding planes and accessing federal buildings and banks across the nation. This bill would extend this parity to include the Second Amendment Rights of Tribal members. It is past time that Tribal sovereignty is recognized in this regard, and I look forward to working with Rep. Johnson on this essential legislation.”

We fully endorse this effort and this bill. Please reach out to your representatives and let them know that you do as well.

This is a bipartisan bill that should pass unanimously in both houses of congress.

And if you don’t already, you should support Rep Peltola. Her public website is very much in alignment with our motto- “Every Single Right. Every Single Person”

That means defending the right to choose for Alaskans and every single person nationwide.

That means defending the rights of Alaskans to buy and possess firearms — whether it be recreational use, hunting or self-defense.
