New guy from the northern St Louis county area, Missouri.
I grew up in Illinois, moved to MO five years ago and finally got the ok to get into shooting sports after we get broken in to back in December. I've been doing a lot of reading and researching with a little shooting thrown in for good measure yesterday.
I like 380 medium frame handguns and have shot rifle and shotgun in my distant past (Boy Scouting was fun for me!). Growing up, my brother (who is still into hunting and target shooting) had a gun collection and my mom tolerated it. I lived in Illinois around a lot of other folks who felt there was no real need for guns, a stance I and my wife have rejected rather recently.
I'm socially Liberal with conservative economic beliefs. My dad's father was directly involved with the Chicago Machine, so I grew up in an anti-Democrat household. My father is also a diehard Cubs fan, so it was more of a 'anyone against the Machine is my favorite' moreso that 'Republicans are right'. Personally, I am heavily disillusioned with both parties and dabbled with Libertarianism until they came down on the wrong side of socialized medicine. Now I am someone that refuses to vote by party lines and seeks out those candidates that I have the most common beliefs and fewest disagreements with.
I was glad to hear about this forum as I don't tend to agree politically with many other gun owners/2nd amendment protectors that I have met. I find myself shaking my head at Obama's actions since he took office and am still waiting for the transparancy and change that he promised. Just like the first 1/2 of W's first term, I'm willing to give him a break and see what he intends to do before I decide whether or not I vote for him again.
