New guy from MO

1
New guy from the northern St Louis county area, Missouri.

I grew up in Illinois, moved to MO five years ago and finally got the ok to get into shooting sports after we get broken in to back in December. I've been doing a lot of reading and researching with a little shooting thrown in for good measure yesterday.

I like 380 medium frame handguns and have shot rifle and shotgun in my distant past (Boy Scouting was fun for me!). Growing up, my brother (who is still into hunting and target shooting) had a gun collection and my mom tolerated it. I lived in Illinois around a lot of other folks who felt there was no real need for guns, a stance I and my wife have rejected rather recently.

I'm socially Liberal with conservative economic beliefs. My dad's father was directly involved with the Chicago Machine, so I grew up in an anti-Democrat household. My father is also a diehard Cubs fan, so it was more of a 'anyone against the Machine is my favorite' moreso that 'Republicans are right'. Personally, I am heavily disillusioned with both parties and dabbled with Libertarianism until they came down on the wrong side of socialized medicine. Now I am someone that refuses to vote by party lines and seeks out those candidates that I have the most common beliefs and fewest disagreements with.

I was glad to hear about this forum as I don't tend to agree politically with many other gun owners/2nd amendment protectors that I have met. I find myself shaking my head at Obama's actions since he took office and am still waiting for the transparancy and change that he promised. Just like the first 1/2 of W's first term, I'm willing to give him a break and see what he intends to do before I decide whether or not I vote for him again.

Greetings from the home of the Machine.

Hey EricO! Glad you made it over here from THR.

(There was a thread on THR about what other forums you frequent and I dropped LGC into it to see what would happen - Looks like EricO happened.)

Welcome!

You are a brave man. I've read stuff over at The High Road. It makes my brain hurt. How much hate mail have you got for name dropping the LGC?

I'm in north St Louis County, surrounded by Dellwood. I was born and raised near Chicago, IL but am adjusting to only needing to show my age when I buy ammo. ;)

I have to say, I've taken some heat on my politics on other boards, but they've been out in the open, not in PM so I can respect that. Also, I'm neither Democrat nor Republican, I'm a broken-hearted Libertarian who disagrees with their stance on socialized medicine, civil unions and keeping a women's right to choose as her own. Its not like I agree with anti-gun ownership laws or something. lol

None yet. But it's still early. :)

I have only commented on a few things so far - I mainly read for reloading info and such.

Though I'm thinking about adding a link to the LGC in my sig line. How long do you think that will last?

I've been 'outed' on another board as an 'Obama lover' after I mentioned LBC on The High Road. He's not my candidate for 2012, but I haven't found one yet. If he were to fire Nepalitano and Holder he'd get my vote, but I really don't see that happening.

I've got relatives in Florence, WI/Iron Mountain, MI. :)
Hey I might know a few. The UP is a small place and I used to spend lots if time in Iron mountain when my aunt loved there. PM me and we can see if you'd like.

Welcome!

I also appreciate the Bible quote in your sig about putting away childish things. I've been thinking a lot lately about the infantilization of our politics, media, and culture -- but that is a topic for another thread.

I'll go play with my guns now. ;)
