Justice Dept. to prosecute John Edwards? Really?

Let me get this straight. The Obama/Holder Justice Department is planning to indict John Edwards for funneling a little campaign cash to his girlfriend?

All the while it has done NOTHING to bring charges against Bush and his cronies for war crimes and torture? And NOTHING to indict Goldman Sachs executives for bank fraud?

I'm not going to defend Edwards' personal life. Sometimes it seems like all politicians have to be narcissistic assholes.

But he is the one major party figure in recent years who began to talk about class -- remember "the two Americas"? Class analylsis one big piece of the puzzle which is absolutely essential to understand our current predicament, and to find a way forward to a more just society. And so, mentioning class is the great unforgivable sin to those who want to keep the working class stupid, divided, and subjugated.

And so he must be crushed without mercy.

The logic behind not going after Bush is that future generations of politicians do not want to be watching their backs. Reagan could have been prosecuted, as could Nixon, Johnson, Kennedy, and Eisnhower. All of the above used the military in illegal ways. No one ever prosecuted the preceding administration because they did not want the next one looking at what they did. I do not agree with the practice and I agree that there should be an independent body to review and prosecute illegal activity as warranted.

As for Edwards, we'll see what they come up with. If he used campaign money to pay to cover up his affair, then he is guilty of campaign fraud and should be indicted. John Ensign is going through the same process because he allegedly used campaign funds to buy off his mistress and her husband.

I am all for punishing ALL politicians who engage in illegal activity, Democratic or Republican party. I know we can't expect saints and perfect people in government, but we should demand that they at least be decent human beings.

Nixon had hell to pay for doing much less than President Shithead. I think the reason he and his crminals haven't been prosecuted is scandal fatigue. But I wouldn't be surprised if a future court or commission convicts them for the high crimes and misdemeanors they committed. Otherwise it sends an implicit green light to the next warmongering president.

Obama has continued the bush legacy and even expanded it. I don't see anything coming out of this administration in regards to going after bush and cheney. Washington has far bigger fish to fry than those guys or the wall street hooligans that have been too big to jail, they have Lance Armstrong and Barry Bonds and Edwards.
