Because to be punished or receive some sort of consequence you have to have some underlying code of ethics and decency. Conservatives do not have that. They borrow ethics and morality from various cultures but only to use as a weapon.

Liberals are alas hamstrung by our belief in respect and human dignity. I like Ed, but calling someone a slut is not the way to hit back at the conservatives. Calling them liars and charlatans, corporate shills, and other names is fine, but the connotation of slut is offensive and an affront to women.

The difference is, the right wing venom slingers use every word but “slut”; it’s that key word that got him in trouble. When you use “slut” it becomes a sexist attack and he needed to stick to the ISSUES, and not get THAT far down in the gutter. Right wingers don’t get into trouble because they’re savvy enough to not use such inflammatory words. Oh, they’ll tip toe around it and use every word up to, but they seem to know better than to cross that line.

I don’t like to see this from either side. The right wing is full of hate and venom, and it saddens me to see the left stoop to their level. Stick to the issues and leave the hate to the hate mongers.

We employ a double standard. Women are protected and therefore untouchable. Referencing a woman as a "slut" or "whore" or "cunt" is unacceptable, even in this forum, apparently because, as some have said, it draws attention to either genitalia or the act itself and is therefore collectively an assault upon all women.

Men however, do not enjoy these same protections. Referring to a man as a "prick" or "cock-sucker" or "motherfucker" is completely acceptable, because we all know that a man is actually more than his genitals but often is incapable of behaving as such.

It is irrelevant whether the target of such a epithet is deserving of it or not; if the recipient is female, then political correctness demands that the taboo is in place, if they're male, anything goes.

Liberals, being educated and having obtained a higher degree of social sophistication are expected to know this. Conservatives, lacking the collective mental fortitude are excused from suffering any consequence for failing to observe this protocol.

Ed Schultz is certainly not whip smart like Tom Hartmann or Rachel Maddow.

I haven't been able to hear his show recently, but I used to listen regularly. He'd drive me crazy for being dense, missing a point that was probably obvious to all his listeners, etc.

But he is still a left-of-center voice, and there are damn few of them on AM radio. And he has a certain rural/blue collar appeal.

So I guess I'm saying I hope he survives this.

Actually he called her a 'talk slut' no worse than callingg someone an attention whore.. I kind of liked him, in that I didn't see him enough for him to say anything that bothered me unlike the moron maddow. I though olberman was a really great speaker, but so clearly biased I never really bothered to watch his show.

My thoughts exactly on Schultz. Yeah, what he said was unprofessional but I think the left could use more guys or girls like him; people that are willing to speak in a colloquial and a more simpler manner.

Another thing you can always count on the PC thugs on the left to shoot there own fellow travelers in the feet. To be honest I can't say I would be phased to much by an insult like that but that's just me. At the end of the day I want the left to win and at the end of the day that means we are going to need guys like him. Sure he isn't as smart as either Hartmann or Maddow but it is going to be tough for people like Maddow to have any blue collar appeal. By getting attacked by his own leftists we are showing moderates again that we care more about open-mindedness and empathy than actual issues, and I don't like that one bit.

I will go ahead and say it that I am bit jaded to the world "slut", having heard much worse insults. However, I know feminists are going to be up in arms about what he said. I am personally way jaded with the feminist groups I saw in college the same ones that go on about "patriarchy" and "oppression" are socially successful and able to navigate all the little political nuances while keeping their options open. They know all the cool bands and go to all the cool indie movies. But they need to keep pace in the brutal Victim Competition. This is what many of them are giving a shit about when we have a real unemployment rate of 20%, no public health option and increasing college tuition. All I can really say that we are screwed.

I love how liberals are elitists out of touch with the common person, but when a liberal acts like the common person they get bashed. Hypocrisy is a political tool of convenience.

Correction, white men, and its because we're on top for the most part. Even if we're not the majority, we're still the majority of power holders in every facet of life in this country. We are, in fact, "the man." :cool:
