Unfortunately this is the voice the rest of the gun owning population see as the voice of 'hollywood liberal elite'. To me u2 are the worst parts of the Alarm who at best were the worst parts of the clash if the clash had been talentless hacks.
I do feel a bit bad for the audience at the gig who were covered in the huge amounts of feces that fell out of his mouth as he 'spoke'.

Yeah Bono has gone overboard lately.

I don't care much for U2, they keep rewriting the same song over and over, and I really don't give Bono any thought one way or the other...but there is some legitimacy in what he was talking about. A lot of the weapons being used in northern Mexico do come from the US illegally. But he is deliberately misleading when he suggests that we are not discussing it, or working to curtail it

I wonder if he (Bono) made this statement during each of the shows they did in Mexico, or if this was during the last show only, while the plane was sitting on the runway engines idling.

I recall Sting and Mr. Mister getting into a row with the Chilean government over statements made during shows in Santiago about all of the people who suddenly went missing...the misters had some difficulty getting out of Chile as I recall.

I don't know, I guess Bono has balls after all, them cartels must not have appreciated being called out like that.

WOW, maybe I'm missing something, but arent these cartel guys tooled up with full auto miltary grade weapons? they are sure not fooling with bullet buttons in the middle of massacres. despite what the mainstream press says I'd be willing to bet that more hardware comes from south american millitary sources than from bubbas gun and knife. I do agree that decriminalizing drugs would cut the legs out from underneath them.

Some are tooled up with military weapons others are not. I certainly wouldn't knock a semi-auto AK or an AR-15 model if it where to be used in a firefight. Take it from a guy who is from Mexican and knows a lot of whats going on down there. It is difficult to discredit the US as a major arms supplier to Mexico.

Another full-blooded Mexican here...

I think Bono is full of shit. I like his music, and I liked his message in the mid eighties, mid nineties...Today, with regards to this issue...he's a UN anachronism.

Oxfam, Rebecca Peters, IANSA, et al.... can kiss the "ArtiCULO 10 de la Constitucion Mexicana" all day/night long.

Perhaps we have to thread lightly here...I sense a Serb/Bosnian...Israeli/Palestinian...no easy answer issue here...

bono's a fuckwit and a sanctimonious twat. U2's music is shit and has been for a long time. if he wanted to do some good he'd start by tooling down the fucking three ring circus that follows their shit fiesta of a concert tour. has nothing to do with picking on the irish, irish, just like how picking on teabaggers has nothing to do with picking on special ed kids. well, not much.

Peoples feelings about Bono aside, if any arms are making it across the border and into the hands of the Cartels we need to accept responsibility and try to prevent it. As for the cartels possibly getting their weapons from south American militaries, where did most of these weapons originate? That's right, sold or given to those militaries by the US Govt to fight "the war on drugs". No matter how you look at it,the shit storm of violence certain parts of Mexico face on a daily basis is very much of our making.

The main gist of my view is; I don't want my gun rights messed with just to stop some non american criminal breaking a law. If (and I'm sticking with if), cartels are buying hardware at big 5 they are breaking the law. Someone is commiting a straw purchase, or other fraud. Tighten up the border. If people and drugs can't get through neither can guns. Let the mexican govt take some responsibility in this issue.

By that logic if I'm selling you baby formula with melamine in it, and your kid goes into kidney failure and dies, that's your problem.

Back to my current biggest issue with Americans - ME, ME, ME! Particularly in the gun community, I want it, so fuck the consequences for everybody else with no logical discussion.

no, it would be like me selling you rat poison and you feeding ytour baby with it. It's not my fault if someone mis uses something. There are two sides to a border. The mexican govt seems to have no interest in patroling it.
