I don't like to think of my self as an artist so much as someone who stares at empty spaces and imagines s--t.

29You should see the ammo it uses! It uses black powder (easier to make in the post-teotwawki/PAW/Zombie-Mad Max) firing a 45Ninemillimeeter 5,000 grain lead ball at roughly 1,000,000 miles an hour, all from a .177 barrel. Amazing. The muzzle energy is off the charts.judgepacker wrote:You did make that up, right? I'm imagining someone trying to say that without throwing their neck out.Mini-FNAK15LA1

I am a nubie to the forum and the whole world of firearms. My story may be fairly common, raised by a liberal, ex-hippie, single mom who absolutely hated firearms. Growing up I was (and still am) a military history buff who loves documentaries on, well, war stuff. I can debate the argument over L1A1 vs. FN FALs in the Falklands or why the SG-44 (MP-43) is the father of the modern assault rifle rather than the M1 carbine all day long.
I don’t know if it’s just a guy thing, but no matter how much I was told guns were dangerous tools of the military industrial complex and that I should reject them with the same vigor I reject patriarchy, racism, fascism and religious dogma…but guns are just so cool! So now that I am all grown up with a family of my own I am thinking of getting into collecting and shooting. I would like to provide my children with a basic knowledge of firearms because it seems like something all Americans should have considering how prevalent firearms are in our society, and again they are just so cool!
So here I am, I have lurked around other firearms related sites and they downright scare me. Seems like there is this unstated rule that goes something like this:
Interest in guns = Christian fundamentalist = distain for government = Obama is a Fascist/Socialist (your choice)
How does that work? I just would like to go shoot targets with my son and own a part of history (like an M1 Garand!). All of a sudden I am asked to question Obama’s citizenship…WTF does that have to do with debating Hi-Power vs. Glock?
Anyway, happy to have found this forum.

You should definitely start with a hard kicking military caliber, .30-06 or 7.62x54R should suffice. Definitely let your kid shoot it first. If you don't he'll turn out to be a liberal wussy.

34Yup, I feel Obama’s pain, born in Sweden with US citizen parents so technically I am a “native born US citizen”. Guess I can’t be President, aw shucks!rolandson wrote:careful guys, his occupation says he's a lawyer and his avitar is a troll...and I don't think we have seen his birth certificate yet...
My parents weren’t exactly Trolls (although they both had long hair per my Avatar) but I was born just outside Trollhättan just like all the SAABs.
