I guess it's more of a context thing. It went like this...

Young Slovakian female bartender: Man across the bar would like to treat you guys another drink.
Xela: (turns to wife, wife shrugs) Oooookay.
Young Slovakian female bartender: (She opens 2 more Zywiecs, and serves.)
Man across the bar: (looking at us, raised glass) Nazdrowie!!! (drinks)
Xela: (me and wife turn to man, then raise beers) Nazdrowie!!! (we drink beers)

We then repeat 2 or 3 times...

Where was I...? Here's short summary of my visit to Chicago...more or less...

Thur: Arrive at Chinatown. Lunch at Topolobampo (drinks: beer and mezcal and tequila). Free visit at Art Institute. Visited some South portion of Millenium park. Evening drinks somewhere along/under Brown line.

Fri: Chinese dumpling/pastries with green tea in Chinatown (Chiu Quon Bakery). Train ride to Belmont. Hot Doug's lunch/dinner. L&L bar, drinks. Long walk along lake shore.

Sat: Bfast pastries (again) at Chiu Quon Bakery. Quest for Polish food. Got lost (drunk) at Pulaski/Archer instead.

Sun: Dim Sum at Phoenix in Chinatown...day mostly a blur....

Mon: Got some cold cuts/chorizo/cheese bread and olives at Fox and Obel...then proceeded to get drunkish...at...

Downtown Sound: Bonnie "Prince" Billy featuring the Cairo Gang + Eleventh Dream Day

Mon: Day, mostly a blur. Wondered about Chinatown. Dinner, Szechuan rabbit

Tue: bfast at Xoco, churros, chocolate...noon...back to DFW.

Somewhere up there we got stuffed with "tortas" at Xoco...also had some wonderful Mongolian beef somewhere...all of this forgot which day though.

Did ya notice how much plumper the average person on the street is here in comparison to those in Tejas?
That's an interesting observation goosekiller...Honetly, I can't say either way.

Although I did spend most of my time people-watching during Sunday's concert, and I can't say I noticed a big difference between that audience and a similar group of people back home.

I can say with firm confidence though, Chicago IS a foodie's paradise. And places are wayyy more accesible than back home. Places to eat down here are so freaking spread out, and our public transportation is so pathetic.

Yes. I have rail envy...

Wife and I had the chicken "tinga" and "ahogada" tortas...D...lish.

Prepare for an EXPLOSION of the senses, especially if you pick the "ahogada".

On the downside, the "churros" were...eh. Which I found surprising since he uses a good recipe last I remember. I think they recycled some old grease fo the frying of the churros, which is bad. The churro chocolate sauce on the other hand....H.E.A.V.E.N.

We did notice that Rick chose a whole wheat type of baguette, which is not necessarily bad, but it's definetely NOT a classic "telera" bread, which is what is traditionally used for "tortas".

Anywho, I would rate Xoco (scale 1-10) with an 8.

Well done Rick. Well done.

P.S. We're still kicking ourselves for not having tried Frontera. We only did Topo and Xoco from the Holy Trinity.

I wound up getting the Ahogada again. It's my favorite & I can't stay away from ordering it just about every time..

The Choriqueso is probably my 2nd favorite option on the menu.
Praise Satan.

Back to booze...

I noticed in Chicago you are very open about selling liquor just about everywhere (grocery stores, pharmacies), I noticed this in California a while back.

Funny, didn't see one single gun store or a pawn shop (granted, I may have missed them. And we didnt' visit suburbia). But booze was all around.

In Texas is the other way, guns and ammo aplenty, but the booze you only find it in dedicated stores.

Not to mention you can't get liquor on Sundays here. Gonna try horchata White Russians tomorrow.

Gun stores & sales of guns &/or ammo is illegal anywhere inside the city limits. There are only 2 walmarts (as far as I know) & they do not stock ammo.

All gun stores have to be in the Suburbs.

There are pawn shops, but inside the city they cannot buy/sell guns. Come to think of it, I don't think I've really ever seen guns for sale in pawn shops in the burbs either...

Praise be to Neptune, booze is easy to get just about anywhere, and just about anytime. You can find plenty of 5:00am bars in most neighborhoods if you know where to look..

I had a strange feeling that if I were to re-locate to Chicago, I would be a White Sox fan.

Chicago is an eaters paradise, I remember stumbling across a great Italian restaurant there that was a proverbial hole in the wall. If you like Dim Sum, go to San Francisco's Chinatown especially on Sunday. I have many blurred memories of starting with Dim Sum and not remembering the rest the day.
