computer help

1
I need a computer savvy person. Lately, it seems that my computer runs Youtube videos up until the indicator reaches the buffer and then it freezes up. It also does this on my daughters' laptop. It doesn't start playing again until I actually manipulate the controls (that is, it doesn't seem to continue automatically when the buffer catches up).

This is a recent thing (it started about two weeks ago). Could there have been a change in the quality of our service? Could it simply be our wireless router? It's all Greek to me when it comes to computers, so I don't even know where to start looking.

Won't somebody think of the videos that I want to watch? I need help!

Thanks in advance.

Hit the Reload tab on your browser. What is happening is that the video is playing faster that it is loading. Also, check what it is playing at. Some are set to play at 360p. You can click on that tab underneath the view count and can set it for 240p. The image will not be as sharp, but it will load faster.

Hey, what do you know? I set it to 240p and the buffer indicator seems to load a lot faster, so much so that when I set it back to 360p it would run fine.

So, what would explain the sudden change as of two weeks ago? Did Youtube suddenly start defaulting to 360p?

Thanks for your help, BTW.

Try a speed test & see what you are getting. (try it more than once)

Yeah, what he said.

The reason that the 240 comes in faster than the 360 is that its much lower quality so its less information. Less info can be transmitted faster.
