I work part time for one of those megacorp pizza delivery joints. I'm not ashamed of it since the rest of the staff are like me: College grads who got laid off and are going back to school. Sort of like misery loving company I guess.... that and I do average $13 to $21 an hour, so if it's good to keep my family going I'm fine with it until I finish the 2nd/3rd degrees.

Anyways, my first delivery is to a house that is undergoing an estate sale in a nice neighbourhood in our area. After giving the recipient at the door her order and noticing quite a few people in attendance, I offer my condolences. She quickly informs me that no one has passed away: It's HER estate that she is selling to rid herself of worldly anchors before the rapture, and then proceeds to hand me one of those now-famous "Save the Date" propaganda leaflets!!

This poor woman is selling her ENTIRE ESTATE thinking that she's going away on Saturday! I only hope that she doesn't truly end up offing herself when the whole thing doesn't occur The gullibility of people is sad sometimes...

Did she own any guns?

Because the church that told her all that BS about the rapture happening next week needs the money. I’m a Christian and I find this abhorrent. The predicting the rapture stuff (if you believe in the rapture) is actually 100% non-biblical. The Bible says “no man shall know the hour or the day” … Perhaps as a woman she felt exempt.

So when she sells all this stuff and gives the money to the church, and the rapture doesn’t happen, any bets on if the church will give her money back? THIS kind of church needs to be disbanded; they’re just common thieves.

A part of me wants to feel sorry for this woman as I'm guessing she may be older and needs something like this to hold on to. On the other hand I say too fucking bad you're dumb enough to be so gullible. Sadly, come sunday she'll be homeless with nothing but the clothes on her back.

Disbanding the church isn't punishment enough. Anyone that has any clout in that "church" should be rounded up and thrown in jail.

Everybody assumes she is giving all her cash to the church. Maybe she is making a fine gesture and giving it to some athiest like me.

I hope she keeps one chair to pout in.

The last investigation I read said that family radio is about 52 million in the hole. They need the money, and the owner is facing the end of the world financially. So if he is able to climb out of his debt after all this BS is over, he wins. He looks like an idiot on the 22nd, but he saved his ass from bankruptcy, (while victimizing his followers in the process).

I can't believe you actually saw this happen in person! You must have walked away pretty shocked. Ditto on the epic tip!

I don't know for shit about rapture, real or imagined, but something kind of disturbed me...

Neo, man why would you be ashamed of doing honest work? I would never let one's station in life dictate the quality of one's character.

I have known physicians who are absolutely worthless human beings. We all know Antonin Scalia, Clarence Thomas, John Roberts and Sammy Alito are disgusting people.

I have known homeless people, gas station attendants, cops, musicians and strippers who are righteous, stand-up, solid people who's character I would stake my life on.

For the record, she tipped 1.40. Pretty lousy.

My experience waiting tables on Sunday mornings for 5 years was that church groups were some of the absolute worst tippers. And the late night AA/NA groups. But they were probably broke, so I cut them some slack.

Several times I got Chick Tracts as tips in place of actual money. The one that told me all about the dangers of drug abuse was particularly helpful since, based on the way they were tipping, apparently they wanted me to deal drugs to pay the rent.

Well, if "god helps those who help themselves"it would explain why corporate CEOs and politicians are looked well upon by religious fanatics. It would also suggest that a career as a mugger should be pursued.

That's the bitch of the Bible, too many parts ignored to justify specific behavior.

Well to be fair, the average tip for that area is around $3 to $4. Add to that the $6/hr hourly (since Arizona has draconian laws that state anyone who works for tips does not have the right to a minimum wage. I'm lucky at $6 since many waiters get $2.13, and some don't even get paid at all and are labeled as "independent contractors") plus 90 cents per run times about 3 runs per hour. Obviously it's not always consistent, but during an 8 hour shift I can usually pull in an average of $14-$20 an hour after fuel, medical and dental insurance (lousy, but they do offer it) and it's all tax declared so my 1040 at the end of the year is legit.

So, a $1.40 jerk is not a huge hit. I even get a few who refuse to tip (ALOT more stiffs during the school year: Students RARELY if ever tip, especially if they are on scholarship or their parents are paying for everything). So, at least the zealot is better than the college freshman with a Bently and two iPhones at the frat stiffing me. And she was polite!
