So it wasn't celibacy or an all-male priesthood or a repressive, secretive organization that led priests to abuse children over the last decades.

About a year ago I was listening to Mn public radio and they were interviewing an ex priest that had been used by the church for years to work with bad boy priests and after so many years of bullshit quit in disgust and works for a couple of law firms which have been sueing the vatican. He is quite fluent not only in latin but very old greek dialects so he can research the vatican records and he claims the abuse goes back many centuries. Maybe there was a similar sexual revolution in 7th century Rome.

Why does none of that surprise me?

The whole pagentry of Mass and everything Church related creeped me out as a kid in the 1960s. It was like gay oppression on steroids.
