The food we eat here in America is so full of chemicals it's pathetic. When's the last time you saw a bug on a vegetable or fruit, like 1970? I wouldn't be suprised if the next gen lives to 150 and has an extra limb. They say DDT is illegal, bullshit, they just changed the name...
Steriods are illeagal too, except for in our food, everything from farm animals to fucking grass.

And this is why we support the local farmers market. I'd buy "organic" meat in bulk like my dad if I had the room for the freezer, irritates me that the commissary only sells Tyson products.

We belong to a local organic CSA - Community Supported Agriculture.
Its a small farm but we get a TON of produce out of it. Between the 1/2 share we have in the farm and our own garden, we get more veggies than we know what to do with and there are 5 of us here. Its well worth the cost - and if you are hard up for money you can work off some of the cost of the share.
