And a couple of reports of companies that were fined for exposing workers and/or customers to hazardous lead conditions:

Lead is really bad for kids, but its effects on adults are IMO overblown. Even if you do get a major body load, it'll mess up your digestion, but not kill or cripple you. And it takes a good long while to absorb that much Plumbum!
One other thing about lead is its relatively slow rate of being fixed in the bones and organs; it spends longer in the bloodstream than most other heavy metals. That means you have a greater opportunity to shed any contamination before it becomes a permanent addition. And the best way to let rid of any heavy metal is through perspiration: Exercise! Good old cardio exercise.

I had a dentist some years back who started a downward trend. Lethargy, depression, gastrointestinal issues gradually took over his life. Blood work revealed alarmingly high lead concentrations in his whole family.
He had bought a pitcher in Mexico that was used for orange juice and there was a lot of lead in the glaze, being leached by the acid of the juice. It hit him the hardest because, aside from being a dentist, he was also a four striper in the Naval Reserve and had been regularly exposed to high lead concentrations through out his service.
Lead exposure is cumulative.
Took that lesson to heart when I became a parent (Inquisitor, pay attention)...No tap water for my kids, not in juice or formula or whatever...we used distilled water, not just bottled, but the distilled distilled water...I owe their academic accomplishment, which has been unbelievable (seriously, unbelievable), to that simple reality. It certainly wasn't me, maybe their mother had something to do with it, but I don't think so.
