Seconded. It is great to have new voices on the forum. It would be good to get an introduction and a location as we seem to be growing geographically.

Welcome.

Okay, I'm brave, so here goes!

I was a lifelong Northeasterner (the Bronx/NYC as a child, but most of my life in Massachusetts, both around Boston & exurban central MA), til I moved to the Phoenix area 4 years ago after being a snowbird of sorts for 3 years before that. Couldn't take another New England winter!
I'm a life long liberal Democrat, libertarian about some things. Been a DeadHead since 1972, and dabble in various arts and crafts.

I love the weather here, and I find it beautiful - the shadows & light cast on the mountains - but sadly, I've found the vast majority of people here to be MEAN, PETTY, SELFISH, and SELF-CENTERED, and none too bright. They seem to have grown up not knowing any kind of variety of people/backgrounds. Pretty much sheeple.

You all know all the stereotypes about Arizonans - well, they are true, for the vast majority of the residents, IMHO.

Back home, if someone disagreed with your opinions, people were pretty much live and let live.
I have Republican friends back home, most of whom are fiscal Republicans but social libertarians - pro choice, not homophobic, willing to spend money on good schools, and live & let live. If they didn't like your views, they might engage in a friendly debate with you, but didn't look upon you as the devil.

I strongly supported Obama (still do, compared to the alternatives!), although I do feel that he just hasn't been forceful enough in standing up to the Republicans. He's giving in way too often, on way too many issues.

Well, it ain't like that out here!
I've been screamed at and vilified for my views, & physically threatened. And here I am, a middle aged lady!

Now, I had never so much as TOUCHED a gun back home - we had neighbors with hunting rifles, as hunting IS a big thing in central MA/the more rural areas of New England. But a retired policeman friend of mine was the ONLY person I knew (to my knowledge) who owned and kept a loaded gun in his locked glove department. But he is a private investigator, who might need it for self-protection, and most of all, I was confident he knew how to use it.

Ain't the same here.

So...a few months ago, my doctor, who is quite politically liberal, surprised me by saying that she often goes target shooting, owns gun, and grew up with guns as her father was a high-profile lawyer who kept them for personal and family protection, and raised his kids to know how to use them.
She recommended that I consider shooting at least a .22, as a means to meet men (LOL!) and get out to different places.

So when a friend from back home who is retired career USAF, came out here to visit me, he took me to a local range, where we rented .22s to use. It was FUN!

Well...I tried different rentals for the next few weeks after, and a few weeks ago I purchased my FIRST gun, a Walther P22. I'm not sure I'd ever go up in caliber. I feel quite safe where I live - I grew up in BAD neighborhoods and acquired a LOT of street smarts. People here are scared WIMPS! I really feel NO need to keep a gun at my bedside or concealed carry for personal safety.
Also, I tried a .38 and the noise & recoil were UNBEARABLE for me, even with earplugs/earmuffs together. Not sure if 9mm is much less, but it'll be a while til I try again.

So I really just want to go to ranges, outdoor when it's not too hot, and I'd love to go plinking in the desert, although it's harder to find places where it's allowed than it used to be.

I've played darts off and on for years, so I consider shooting an extension of that.

I guess that's what's relevant to this board about me. Feel free to ask questions of me, if you have any.

Well, welcome...Snotsdale...that's new to me, I kind of like it! I have always equated the Arizona license plate design of the Saguaro to be, in reality, the silhouette of somebody flipping the bird...

Anyway, glad to have ya...!

Welcome. Self defense is one of the biggies for owning a firearm, but there are many reasons people get into shooting. I am glad you have picked up on the fun of target shooting. I am sorry that you have to go through the harassment from people who are so threatened by alternative views that they would stoop to threats. We will argue here, but we are usually pretty civil. Welcome to the community.

Welcome!

If you are a fan of the .22, you should peruse some of the many Ruger 10/22 discussions we have on here. Who knows, it might be the next step in the evolution of your arsenal!

Glad to have you aboard.

Welcome! If you're happy with the .22 then all's good.

And if you're happy with the .22, than another .22 would make you real happy.

Repeat as necessary. You get the idea!

:welcome: from FL. Nice writeup! I like the part about getting to meet some guys by going to the range! Your doctor is awesome!

Anyway, if .22 is what you like, that's cool although in my opinion you gotta try more of them in different caliber to know what you like and don't like. It is more than just a noise and a kick.

So I assume with the move, you have switched your team allegiances from Pats/Sox to Cards/Dbacks? :)
