This is in Chicago?

We're doing a quick hit and run this weekend. I may be trying some of this. No. Not good for my coronary heart disease...

...But damn it looks good. I'll go ahead and have small bites.

We also have plans for these guys:

And maybe one of Rick Bayless' joints.

Xela!

Getting into Frontera is Very Very hard (they never take reservations), but if you can't get in there, go right next door & check out XoCo. You can usually get in without much fuss. It's not as fancy as Frontera, but Bayless himself is usually working the grill at Xoco. (at least he is every weekday during lunch, when I go).

It's his take on Street food, mostly wood-oven fired Tortas. They are absolutely amazing. I just went this past Friday.

You said you were coming up for a 'quick hit', too bad you aren't staying longer, it would be fun to do a meetup @ a range or something.

Hot Dougs is great too, but very long lines. Try the duck-fat fries!

Thanks for the heads-up. Yep. My wife found out about Frontera and she had a fit (she's a huge fan). But I think we managed with Topolobampo. I'll keep Xoco in mind

Thanks for the consideration. It's a quick romantic getaway (she likes Sinatra's songs as well).

Without reading following comments, I'll throw my vote uninfluenced in:

Vienna Beef, simply because any food that can get a Kosher rating (which I believe this does) often, to me, simply tastes better due to better quality ingredients. I'm a fan of pork, don't get me wrong, but Vienna Beef dogs with cheddar sauce and a poppy seed bun just CAN'T be beat!

Ok.

I think we're going to try to keep it "simple".

Having a conversation with the wife...I think we've reached a final decision: We're keeping Hot Doug's and Gene & Jude's in our to do list.

It seems the Fox link worked Paladin, nice work sir.

Duck fat fries, here we come baby.

I survived Chicago...
http://www.hotdougs.com/

2 Chicago Style dogs, with everything (one grilled, one steamed)

1 Foie Gras and Sauternes Duck Sausage with Truffle Aioli, Foie Gras Mousse and Fleur de Sel

1 Cognac-Infused Pheasant Sausage with Chive-Dijon Goat's Butter and Duck Rillettes

And, yes, the duck fat fries...

Chicago, I love you.

I forgot to mention I washed it all down with root beer, regular root beer. Not diet root beer. Which probably had lotsa corn syrup.

My annual check-up is next week. My physician is going to kill me...

More details about the trip later.
