Re: Felon gets 17 yrs for gun possession

The sentence may have been based on violating parole and the requirement to do what the original sentence was if he screwed up, not based directly on gun possession.

I heard the Dallas DA talk about plea bargaining where they may not have a solid case on a certain crime so they encourage the person to take probation for the unproven crime (deferred adjudication), believing the person will trip up, have the probation yanked and get the prison time the DA wanted to give the person in the first place.

What a delightful game.

Good. Something about the ability to exercise good judgement is banging around the back of my head but I can't put a finger on it...

This is what the NRA has been saying all along. We don't need more laws for felons and/or DA's to ignore - don't let the criminals walk, put 'em away!

IIRC the Stockton shooter had been arrested for felonies several times and plea-bargained down to misdemeanors every time; If only one time he had to take the weight he wouldn't have been able to buy the AK he used in his crime spree.
