CNN: Why the NRA won't sit down with Obama

But the NRA won't cooperate: The gun lobby actually agrees with Obama on many of the fundamental issues, says Ben Armbruster at ThinkProgress. But in the interest of "money and self-preservation," it is publicly fighting him at every step. Since Obama became president, the group has helped spread "primarily baseless and unfounded fears" that Obama wants to take away every gun in America. With that strategy, membership has shot through the roof, so there's no reason to think they'll start cooperating anytime soon.

And this one:
Wayne doesn't want you to know he agrees with Obama

And for a slightly different take:
Repubs avoid meeting with Obama because he makes them look bad (my words, not theirs)

"What's happening is very transparent. The president's base, the anti-Second Amendment political base, is screeching. And he's trying to appease them," said LaPierre.

Diagnosis: Patient 'L-P' suffers from Paranoid Personality Disorder, Borderline Personality Disorder, and Schizoid Personality Disorder. The alleged "screeching" he is hearing and attributing to an 'anti-gun base' is heard only by him, and appropriately so as it is emanating from his Very Fucked Up Psyche. Exacerbating this condition is his awareness of his condition and knowing that if anyone finds out then they are going to take his guns away; therefore his pathology is to blame others for his very condition.

In an interview with CNN, LaPierre accused the White House of trying to pull off a "political maneuver" aimed at weakening the Constitution's Second Amendment right to "keep and bear" arms.

Diagnosis: Patient continues to exhibit aggressive paranoid diatribes accusing phantom foes of that which he is guilty; namely, political maneuvering. Oh yes, and his insatible need for more: more guns, more money. For Patient, too much is never enough.

Treatment: Let him rant on and soon he will go the way of serial denial freak Nixon, and his batshit crazy craven greedy megalomaniac self will consume his fuckwad soul as even his fawning dimwit followers will desert him. His stubborn obtuseness in rejecting an invite from the most powerful man in the world speaks to both his paranoia and his knowledge that the jig, finally, mercifully, is up.

I'm going to walk back my comments in the other thread about being a "proud" member of the NRA. As Rob and others have pointed out, it is clear Wayne stands to lose by meeting with the president and agreeing with the changes that need to be made.
Before I joined the NRA, I read about the history of the organization. It has come a long way since its inception. Until two things happen, 1 being Wayne is replaced by someone who isn't a paranoid delusional fear mongerer and 2, the liberal democrats start embracing gun ownership as not only our right, but not a hot button issue. Until these change we will always be the punching bag of the right when it comes to RKBA.

I will still keep and pay my NRA dues and hope that in the long term it will go back to being what it was originally founded on. And as a counter, I pledge to support and donate at minimum,3 times my annual NRA dues to the LGC.

Thanks for the kick in the pants whitey - you made me realize that I hadn't donated to the LGC yet.

Done.
