"DHS allows US Marshals, DEA and ATF to carry out immigration enforcement"

1
The Department of Homeland Security is allowing certain law enforcement components from the Department of Justice to carry out the "functions" of an immigration officer, according to a new memo sent by the Acting Secretary of Homeland Security Benjamine Huffeman. Huffeman's memo, obtained by ABC News, said the order grants the agencies the "same authority already granted to the FBI." It said that agents can enforce immigration law.The agencies listed in the memo are the Drug Enforcement Administration, the Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms, the US Marshals Service and the Federal Bureau of Prisons.

The DEA and ATF have had little experience historically in carrying out immigration enforcement. Historically, the US Marshals only get involved when there has been a migrant who has become a fugitive. Earlier this week, it was announced federal immigration authorities will be permitted to target schools and churches after President Donald Trump revoked a directive barring arrests in "sensitive" areas. DHS announced Tuesday it would roll back the policy to "thwart law enforcement in or near so-called sensitive areas." Schools and houses of worship were once deemed off-limits, as were hospitals, funerals, weddings and public demonstrations, but no longer after the announcement. "Criminals will no longer be able to hide in America’s schools and churches to avoid arrest. The Trump Administration will not tie the hands of our brave law enforcement, and instead trusts them to use common sense," Huffeman said Tuesday.

Trump doesn't have enough personnel in CBP or ICE, so he has to utilize other federal LEOs until he can dramatically increase CBP and ICE personnel.

Already ICE officers have appeared on middle school busses in SanFran asking for ID.

One should not wonder after those members who disappeared after arguing against Harris/Walz. Any normal person would be ashamed.

Democrats yell with anger and Republicans cheer immigration agents on. During the Biden administration Republicans yelled with anger, while Democrats cheered on immigrants. We're a very divided country on this issue, but one party won the election and they're fulfilling their campaign promises.

That's a pretty lame dig, CDFingers. DNC strategy earned every bit of their loss and Harris/Walz was milquetoast, at best. The DNC/Dems/Biden administration should be ashamed of not bothering with a robust primary, covering Biden's deficiencies, and anointing the least well like candidate from 2020. The election was an unmitigated disaster on the Dems side.

Give the people something to vote for if you want to win. Relying on "I'm not Trump" doesn't seem to have worked. That ain't my or others shame to bear and calling it out here to our vast audience made not one iota of difference.

Agree, Democrats whole campaign seemed to be that Trump was a criminal and should be in jail. Democrats went into fits of apoplexy yelling about Trump the criminal, while Trump talked about issues like immigration and the Biden/Harris border policies. Trump bashing didn't work in 2016 and 2024. Yes, give us candidates we can vote for, not candidates the condescending Democratic elites have approved.

You vote for the candidates you have, not the candidates you should like to have. Truth to fools may be useless--truth usually is to the silo dwellers. Being deliberately foolish has consequences. Life goes on, more uncomfortably for some than others.

Over two million other fools made the same misteak.

And so, we will continue our slow slide into oligarchy and authoritarianism, punctuated periodically by whatever the fuck the next 4 years will be... Let it be that, those who criticize this slide and demand better for their vote, be marked with the scarlet letter of shame. Because the DNC throwing elections brings the people's voice to light, consistent with our democratic character, and should be rewarded with continued office.

Copy that. I'll get my spray paint and stencil. ;)

People aren't going to vote for candidates they don't like, especially if those candidates don't talk about what they feel is important. On the most important issues in poll after poll, Trump scored higher than Biden and Harris. If there was no Electoral College in 2024 the result of the election would have been exactly the same, because Trump won the popular vote. Truth and foolish are subjective terms defined by the silo you inhabit.

New Gallup polling shows Republicans lead in party affiliation 46% to 45% for Democrats, we are a divided nation.
The recent shift from a Democratic to Republican advantage in party affiliation is apparent in most major subgroups of Americans. There have been slightly larger-than-average increases in Republican identification and leaning among Hispanic Americans (from 27% to 36%), young adults (33% to 39%), lower-income Americans (36% to 41%), those without a college degree (45% to 50%), Catholics (42% to 47%) and Black Americans (12% to 17%).

Among the subgroups showing little to no increase in Republican Party affiliation since 2021 are college graduates (from 41% to 42%), adults aged 65 and older (49% to 48%), non-Hispanic White people (53% to 54%), married people (51% to 52%), upper-income (47% to 48%) and middle-income Americans (46% to 47%), political liberals (9% to 10%), and nonreligious Americans (25% to 26%).
When initially asked for their political party identification in 2024, Americans were most likely to identify as independents (43%), with 28% saying they were Democrats and 28% Republicans. Pluralities of at least 39% of Americans have identified as political independents each year since 2011, with the latest figure tying the record high, previously registered in 2014 and 2023.

Democratic messaging in 2024 was bad and unless they do a major clean out and update, I'm not optimistic about their chances in 2026.
