While I suspect that he feared his hand would suffer severe burns if he placed it on any "buy bull" but his own, and while I recognize that there really isn't any requirement for a book for an oath of office, this really isn't a big thing in the overall scheme of awfulness that is T47. There are so many bigger, more awful, more bigoted, and more problematic things about the guy that terrify many of my friends and neighbors (and, because of the well-known writings of Martin Niemöller), myself.
Eventually I'll figure out this signature thing and decide what I want to put here.

Trump's Bible and "Tom Swift'" and his electric hand gesture are having too much read into them. Dissecting every twitch and verbal stumble you're more likely to drive yourself into the land of paranoid conspiracy delusion than uncover some secret coded messaging. This Administration will do enough harm without imagining more.

People use their own holy books all the time.
Politicians bring their own for their swearing in ceremonies, but witnesses in court generally don't. Courts don't stock alternatives so everyone tends to use the King James Bible that's in the courtroom.

Except that you don't have to do it there, either. You also don't have to say "so help me god". Those are common practice, but they are not required by law and you are allowed to not do it.

I think the whole furor over things like this and Elon's salute is the injured losing side voters (us) looking for any reason to try to show the winning side voters (them) how wrong they were and to get them to admit it and apologize. Like it would make any difference.

It's like when you keep trying to win an argument with someone else well after it is over, because you have some desperate need not only to be right, but for others to ACKNOWLEDGE that you are right, and that they were wrong, and to apologize for it. As if that would fix anything. I certainly recognize this kind of instinct in myself in other interactions with my fellow humans, so I am assuming that is what drives many to focus on these things.

"Look, see! I told you so, but NOOOO, you wouldn't believe me! Now see what you've done!" That is why these things get the traction they do.

Yup, neither side will admit that they were wrong. They'd rather act like they hold the moral high ground, which neither side does. People have had different opinions on social and cultural issues for eons and that will continue into the future. We all know that every Republican doesn't think the same way, many of them have rejected Trump. And Democrats don't all think the same way, though plenty of people think that they should. I'm an Independent, so I can curse both sides.

I, too, consider myself "independent" but that really only means I get to vote for either Democrat or Republican candidates as I see fit. There are never any truly viable "Independent" candidates that run in elections I can vote for, so that the resulting office-holder would be labeled as such. I am locked into the two-party system as a voter, like it or not.

I think only Vermont (Bernie) and Maine (Angus King) have congressional representatives that are labelled as "Independent" currently. I wish that number were more like 50, so that neither party had a lock on ANYTHING and those independent congresspeople would be the tie breakers.

Well then, maybe we should just ignore it all. The fact the Natzi has taken over America.gov.

I'm not suggesting that concern isn't warranted. Ulcers and manual hair loss won't affect outcomes either. We had a chance last election cycle, and blew it. The Right has simply done a better of of getting their people hired. The Left spent their efforts on trying to appease too many factions, winning nothing in return. Over reacting after the election can't repair under performance at the polls. The Right may have a less diverse message, but they agree with each other more, and vote with each other more.

Pepto and Rogaine for all.

Kinda, they do stick together and their message is to stop anything liberal. The Independents, the ones that cannot make up their minds if they are left or right are going to find out real soon. Maga doesn't get wishy washy like well I didn't like her laugh or the way she speaks or dresses or she didn't address my ideas enough.

See some people getting canned from their cushy .gov jobs prolly thought so as well, yeah there goes that retirement too.

It's all my fault. I simply could not vote Democrat this time given the shenanigans on the part of the Democrat Party and lack of addressing the real problems of America in their platform while actively working (and spewing the rhetoric) to enact a national assault weapons/high capacity magazine ban.

My fault.
