Could be I’m older enough for the term “prepper” to have a somewhat different connotation. Long years ago it was something of a fad to have a bomb shelter in your back yard. These were often used for their intended purpose and saved countless lives which allowed America to re-emerge as the last nation standing. I can let you in on a deal for a bridge in England, also.
I do own some firearms, but they’re not particularly well suited for lethal combat against a determined group of adversaries, still there is hope. I have some number of acres on which could be inserted an underground fortress but would rather spend the time and money on something fun. The people who build, sell, and install the things have different motivations.
I have a refrigerator, a fire extinguisher, generator. Tools for an optimism based preparation strategy. Should a lone robber come knocking, I would probably grab a pistol and a phone. Should the beans go to burning on the stove, I can deal with that also. I have no hope of staving off a brace of bandits anymore that I can fight a fire which has spread. That’s what the doors and the windows and the insurance are for. I’m fortunate that homeowners insurance is still within my reach. Not very sexy, is it?
Each must decide what best suits themselves. I don’t know what I might think if I were 50 years younger today. I can still leave the house and not be afraid of dying. Everyone is a mix of optimist, pessimist, realist. Like the three branches of government, each should have equal say.
If a robber comes to get your stuff, you could realistically stop him. If the cops come to get your guns, they will. The military doesn't care about your guns. Fortified foxhole, dehydrator, and fifty thousand rounds of military ball isn’t my style.
For me, this place seems best suited for having/poking fun. I had mistaken it for a gun forum, but that is tertiary to it’s purpose. I actually like it better this way. I do learn from it. Thanks to all the forum moderators and behind the scene folks.
