All the legal maneuvering/posturing/suing the shit out of, doesn't address the problem of what will replace combustion. The more I look at it, the less I believe in the rosy idea of "renewable". Something has to be taken from somewhere. Yes-yes-yes, the Sun won't burn out anytime soon, but even trees can't turn photons into electrons. California has much of her energy storage in the form of pumped hydroelectric, requiring man made lakes and reservoirs, something many environmentalists consider a bad thing. The stuff batteries and windmills, and solar collectors are made of have to be mined, processed, refined... generate a waste stream that has to go somewhere, to include end of life disposal. We may put less crap into the air, but we will make crap that has to go somewhere. When we die, we still take up space or pollute by consuming real estate or going all ashes to ashes. Could go all in on Soylent, It is a "green" solution. I hope some really smart people can pull our butts out of the mess, but that has it's own downside. More innovation requires more people, who will consume more resources and keep the game going. There's even hope? for extending the human lifespan. What will that do to the population? SpaceX can save the day with TrashLink, transporting all our waste to the Moon. That's what really will kill off the giant ants up there. Everyone here should visit a landfill. Everyone here is responsible for what's there. Every now and then we get a gift from heaven in the form of a resource replenishing asteroid.
