Former President Jimmy Carter died at 100.

“As the nation’s 39th president, he governed with strong Democratic majorities in Congress but in a country that was growing more conservative. Four years after taking office, Mr. Carter lost his bid for reelection, in a landslide, to one of the most conservative political figures of the era, Ronald Reagan.”
He was probably better known for what he did after his White House years than his time as president. He was often called our greatest former president. He joins his beloved Roslyn. RIP

He was actually interested in doing good. Had we accepted that maybe we should be less wasteful and put on a sweater, we’d be in a far better spot environmentally today.

Anecdotally, I helped provide security for him, saw him but didn’t meet him, when I was a 20 year old infantry medic in Haiti.

RIP.

The Nobel Prize committee does not usually comment when a recipient of a prize dies, however the committee responsible for the Nobel Peace Prize has given a statement on Jimmy Carter. It says that upon his death, the committee repeats its praise for his "decades of untiring effort to find peaceful solutions to international conflicts, to advance democracy and human rights, and to promote economic and social development". The statement given to the Reuters news agency adds that it congratulated Carter on his 100th birthday earlier this year and at the time said that "his work in favour of peace, democracy and human rights will be remembered for another 100 years or more".
The BBC has a good article with interesting facts. Carter was the first US president born in a hospital on October 1, 1924. He won the Nobel Peace Prize in 2002. He had solar panels installed on the roof of the West Wing in 1979. And of course he was the only US president to reach 100 years of age.

There will be a state funeral on Thursday January 9th, 2025, Biden has declared it a national day of mourning. That will be a gathering of major world leaders, the US Secret Service will be very active.

Carter was the ONLY honest president in my lifetime, if not ever - may he rest in peace. Reagan ripped the solar panels off the WH and began the 30 year environmental set back.
I was working/living in the Philippines when Carter ran for office. One day at staff mess hall lunch the president of the Philippine corp I was contracted with asked me about Carter. I had never heard of Carter and said so. He said, get use to him cause he will be your next president. I completed my contract and returned to the USA in late 1979.
Believe me, I had sticker shock at the cost of everything, having not paid for housing, auto, most food as near everything paid by my employers for about 6-7 years. I did enjoy the 16-18% interest on my savings accounts and CD's.
I know I did not vote for Reagan, as I thought him dumb ass (I was correct), but not sure I even voted in that election, I know I didn't vote when Carter was elected, so that would be two presidential elections I missed. I vowed never again and haven't missed one since.

I wonder if turd will attend funeral??

As I told my BIL Carter was a better president than any of the ones since him.

As for the Turd attending the Funeral. Only if he can be the center of attention and not Pres. Carter. I've not read where Pres. Carter will be buried I would assume it will be in Georgia, but he can be buried in Arlington National Cemetery since he is a former naval officer and president.

Jimmy Carter’s memorial journey will end at his house in the tiny town of Plains, Georgia, where he grew up on a peanut farm. That is where his wife, Rosalynn, was laid to rest last year in a burial plot that they chose years ago.

The state funeral service will be at the National Cathedral which is the cathedral church of the Washington diocese of the Episcopal Church. Carter had asked Biden to deliver his eulogy.

Trump was asked on his way into a black tie New Year's Eve Party at Mar-a-loco if he'll be attending Carter's funeral.
“I do. I’ll be there. We were invited,” Trump said, declining to say whether he had spoken with any of Carter’s family members since his death.

I agree. I am surprised that he said he would go, because he will not be the center of attention, although he will try to be.

'No': Trump's latest demand gets curt shutdown from White House spokesperson
White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre answered two pointed questions about incoming President Donald Trump's social media comments on Friday.

The first had to do with Trump's assertion on TruthSocial that "The Democrats are all 'giddy' about our magnificent American Flag potentially being at 'half mast' during my inauguration. They think it's so great and are so happy about it because, in actuality, they don't love our country, they only think about themselves.

"In any event, because of the death of President Jimmy Carter, the Flag may, for the first time ever during an Inauguration of a future President, be at half mast. Nobody wants to see this, and no American can be happy about it. Let’s see how it plays out. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!"

The first reporter asked, "President-elect Trump seemed to take issue today with the fact that flags will be flown at half mast at the time of his inauguration, considering the passing of former President Jimmy Carter... Is that a position that the White House would consider reversing or re-evaluating?"

Jean-Pierre answered simply and curtly, "No."

Former President Carter, a Democrat, died Dec. 29 at the age of 100. President Biden ordered flags lowered to half staff in tribute for 30 days from Carter’s death, which encompasses Trump's inauguration on Jan. 20.

TOS complains about the Flags at Half Staff and they will be so at his inauguration. He should be happy they aren't being flown upside down showing signs of distress.
