Let us note how headlines and so on use his title UHC CEO rather than his name. It's done in the billionaire media to foster class divisions and to make people accept the status quo. Here is the result of that:

This really is not going to end well unless there is something like Medicare for all. There can still be a for profit insurance agency for butt lifts and so on. Otherwise it's going to get messy.

Agreed that this is not gonna end well. I don't see how the US will ever procure Healthcare for all given the fact that the Healthcare industry is dominated and operated to provide insane amounts of money for the top tier. Who then use a portion of that huge profit to purchase (bribe) our "representation" to insure that the gravy train continues while America suffers. Like fixing this Republic via voting, I do not see a viable plan whereby America solves it's healthcare debacle. It'll get fixed maybe in reformation of the republic but not until the whole thing crashes and burns and get rebuilt, Which I believe we are witnessing the beginnings of that right now.

A man in the Altoona, Pennsylvania, area is being questioned Monday in connection with last week's UnitedHealthcare CEO killing in Manhattan, in part because he was found with a gun similar to the one used in the shooting, two sources familiar with the matter told NBC News. The sources say it is too soon to determine if his case is connected to the death of Brian Thompson, but they are investigating it as a potentially significant development. According to the sources, customers at a local McDonald's thought he looked suspicious and called police. Arriving officers noticed a fake ID so took him in for questioning.

Once at the police station, the sources said, officers discovered the man had a gun similar to the one used in Thompson's killing, as well as a silencer and a fake New Jersey ID. The suspected gunman allegedly used a fake New Jersey ID when he checked into a Manhattan hostel last month. Two senior law enforcement officials say the man in Altoona being questioned had the name "Marc Rosario" on his fake NJ ID. Three sources familiar with the matter say the suspected gunman checked into the hostel using a fake NJ ID with the name “Marc Rosario.”

The suspected gunman also may have taken a bus to get out of New York. Investigators are looking into whether the man being questioned had recently gotten off a bus from Philadelphia, according to a senior official. NYPD detectives are headed to the area to question the man, who sources said looked similar to the suspected gunman. The development comes as a private funeral is being held Monday for Thompson, the 50-year-old executive gunned down at point-blank range as he headed to a midtown hotel for an investors' conference last Wednesday, according to a source familiar with the plans.

Five days after the shooting -- by a man captured on surveillance cameras across Manhattan -- the killer remains on the loose. The nation's largest police department is after him, along with the FBI. Despite obtaining a clear image of his face among other evidence, authorities have yet to identify him.

Luigi Mangione, 26, was apprehended by police on Monday in connection with the killing of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson in New York City. He appeared in a Pennsylvania court for a preliminary arraignment on firearms and forgery charges earlier on Monday before New York prosecutors filed a murder charge and other charges against him later that night. Thompson's shooting on Wednesday sparked a massive manhunt but no arrests had been made in connection to the case before Monday. Mangione was detained at a McDonald's in Altoona, Pennsylvania. The Altoona Police Department confirmed in a press release that Mangione was arrested on charges unrelated to Thompson's shooting.

Mangione's last known address was in Honolulu, Hawaii. He was born and raised in Maryland and has ties to San Francisco. Mangione attended the University of Pennsylvania, graduating in May 2020 with both a bachelor's degree and a master's degree, a Penn spokesperson told Axios. He received a bachelor of science in engineering with a major in computer science and a minor in mathematics. He also received a master of science in engineering in computer and information science. Mangione graduated in 2016 as valedictorian of the Gilman School, a prep school in Maryland, multiple media outlets reported.

A LinkedIn account attributed to Mangione says he served as head counselor at a Stanford University pre-collegiate studies program in 2019. A Stanford spokesperson confirmed to Axios that "a person by the name of Luigi Mangione" had worked as head counselor for the program. The LinkedIn account says that Mangione started work as a data engineer after graduating Penn. A spokesperson for TrueCar, another company listed on Mangione's LinkedIn account, said he has not been an employee of the vehicle sales business since 2023.

He wasn't that smart if he kept the gun, the fake ID and didn't change his appearance. NY filed charges against him so they'll file for extradition from PA. Apparently the McDonald's in Altoona got bombed on social media with bad reviews, some people aren't happy with their employee.

CNN has more info.
The 26-year-old scion of a wealthy Baltimore family who was a high school valedictorian and an Ivy League graduate, Mangione had maintained an active social media presence for years, posting smiling photos from his travels, sharing his weightlifting routine and discussing health challenges he faced. He publicly kept track of nearly 300 books he had read or wanted to read, even posting a favorable review of the Unabomber manifesto on a book website. But then, during the summer, Mangione appeared to stop posting online, prompting worried messages from some of his friends. “Nobody has heard from you in months, and apparently your family is looking for you,” one user posted on X in October, tagging an account belonging to Mangione. “I don’t know if you are okay,” another posted. Now, as police rush to piece together Mangione’s potential motive and movements leading up to last week’s shooting of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, those who know him are left wondering how someone with a promising life could have possibly committed such a brazen crime. “I can make zero sense of it,” said R.J. Martin, who lived with Mangione at a Hawaii co-living space a few years ago, remembering him as friendly and thoughtful. “It’s unimaginable.” According to the criminal complaint against Mangione, he was carrying a backpack containing a black 3D-printed pistol and a black 3D-printed silencer. A police official told CNN he also had a handwritten document stating, “these parasites had it coming,” and expressing “ill will toward corporate America.”

In recent years, Mangione suffered from troubling back pain and underwent surgery to treat it, according to a friend and online postings. Around 2022, Mangione moved to Hawaii, where he lived for about six months at a co-working and co-living space in Honolulu, Martin told CNN. At the time, Mangione was working remotely, Martin said. Mangione helped lead a book club for residents and liked going hiking and doing yoga, Martin, the founder of the co-living space, said. While residents sometimes discussed capitalism and the health care system, “it wasn’t like he had an ax to grind or he was even upset or angry about a particular issue,” Martin said. He didn’t remember Mangione ever talking about guns or violence.

Saw some of the same comments, the person is being called a judas/traitor. She/he better leave Altoona now, it could take a very long time to get that reward. The reward is now $60,000.

Consider that this scion of a wealthy family and product of prep-school education actually had no intention to evade the law. Many pundits are speculating that this was a politically motivated attack. The shooter fully intends to have his 15 minutes of popularity basking in social media.

Of course an Ivy League boy also really doesn’t know what goes on inside of prison walls... Shortsightedness and immediate gratification seems a hallmark of this generation.

I agree Bisbee, at first glance he looks to be highly intelligent, an Ivy League grad who has degrees in an in-demand occupation. Wonder why and how he became "radicalized" and decided to murder the head of the largest health insurance company in the US. His choice of lawyers may give us some clues as to his defense. If he's indicted, this trial won't turn out like the Daniel Penny trial.

Lots of people have and are pissed at healthcare corps for denying care on their family members who died and or went bankrupt just trying to stay alive all the while paying out exorbitant premiums. So in my opinion this isn't that shocking and I expected something like this to happen sooner. I just didn't expect a perp to hit the top CEO but more like some grunt in an office cubicle.

Yup health insurance websites are being scrubbed of executives names, pics and bios. The problem is not just the US health insurance companies, it's US hospitals especially for profit hospital chains and it's US specialists who want to make their fortunes. We have to control healthcare costs but that doesn't mean that it should all fall on the shoulders of insured patients. No one is advocating shooting health insurance execs, but they're for profit companies seen as financially benefiting from the illnesses of patients.

The defense attorney representing Luigi Mangione, the suspect in the killing of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, said he has seen "no evidence" linking his client to the killing, adding that "a lot of guns look the same." "I have not been made aware of any evidence that links the gun that was found on his person to the crime so these are things that we're looking to see," attorney Thomas Dickey told ABC News' "Good Morning America" on Wednesday. "Today's another day," he added. "We're looking forward to beginning our inquiry as to what evidence may or may not be out there." Mangione, 26, plans to challenge his extradition from Pennsylvania to New York, where he faces a charge of second-degree murder in connection with Thompson's Dec. 4 outside a Midtown Manhattan hotel.

Mangione was arrested on Monday in Altoona, Pennsylvania, and charged in Pennsylvania for allegedly possessing an untraceable "ghost" gun." "He has constitutional rights and that's what he's doing" in challenging the interstate transfer, Dickey told reporters on Tuesday. Police officials in New York have not said whether the gun recovered in Pennsylvania is considered a match for the one used in the killing last week, but said it looks similar and that it would undergo ballistic testing. "A lot of guns look the same," Dickey said on Wednesday. "If you brought a gun in and said, 'Well, it looks like that,' I don't even know if that evidence would be admissible. So I would argue it wouldn't be given much weight." He also cautioned that anyone speculating on the case should take the potential evidence "in its entirety," not taking pieces of writing or other evidence "out of context." "People put out certain things, parts of different things," he said. "I think any lawyer involved in this situation would want to see it all."

Mangione plans to plead not guilty to the charges filed against him in Pennsylvania, Dickey said. A judge in Pennsylvania ordered Mangione held without bail on Tuesday. The Manhattan District Attorney's Office said it will seek a governor's warrant to try to force Mangione's extradition. New York Gov. Kathy Hochul said in a statement that she'll sign a request for the governor's warrant "to ensure this individual is tried and held accountable." Dickey said he anticipates that Mangione would also plead not guilty to the second-degree murder charge in New York. The attorney said he has limited information about the facts of the New York murder case but he conceded Mangione is "accused of some serious matters." He added that Mangione is "taking it as well as he can." Mangione yelled to the press about "an insult to the intelligence of the American people" as he was physically dragged into the courthouse on Tuesday.

When Mangione was arrested on Monday, he had "written admissions about the crime" with him, according to the New York arrest warrant. Mangione's writings, obtained by ABC News, were addressed to the "Feds" and said, "I do apologize for any strife of traumas but it had to be done. Frankly, these parasites simply had it coming." He claimed that the U.S. has the most expensive health care system in the world, but ranks about No. 42 in life expectancy. He said UnitedHealthcare "has grown and grown, but as our life expectancy? No the reality is, these [indecipherable] have simply gotten too powerful, and they continue to abuse our country for immense profit." Whether Mangione has a personal connection to UnitedHealthcare is unknown, NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch said. A UnitedHealth Group spokesperson said in a statement that they hope the arrest "brings some relief to Brian's family, friends, colleagues and the many others affected by this unspeakable tragedy. We thank law enforcement and will continue to work with them on this investigation."

I'm OK with Capitalism but there needs to be rules to keep the lucky ones from dominating the "game" and changing the rules to exclude everyone else. The US is now just like a Monopoly Game - all of the resources are in the hands of one or few and no one else has a chance or a prayer. Whether or not Capitalism can be fixed at this point is dubious. Like the US/Republic, I don't see how we can recover it if the winners get to make the rules.
