Got the hankering for a new pistola. Something for the range and maybe for the car when I commute to work here in rural Kansas. Will be a 9. And also I do not have anything that is optic ready...
Honed in on the CZ-09C Nocturne and the Springfield XD Mod 3. I am a DA/SA fan and love the CZ. However also like the XD with the grip safety and many moons ago qualified for my first CCW with a XD that was a rental at the range.
Anyone have experience with both? Pros and cons of either?
Re: CZ vs Springfield??
3I personally don't like the backstrap safety on the Springfield. It's almost the same thing as the Smith EZ 9.

4I'll second that muddy water. I'm a Beretta Px4 lover. Of the two originally posted I'd go with the CZ hands down. Very fine pistols.

Re: CZ vs Springfield??
5I'm a CZ guy, I guess, but I haven't fired any rounds through the XD, so my opinion isn't worth much on this question.
I looked at (but didn't touch) the Nocturne, and I think I still prefer my P07 for EDC. The biggest operational difference for me is the slide serrations. I'm not in the market for another pistol at the moment, but I may fondle the shop's display gun to see whether they really are better or worse.
I have an earlier model of the P09 that's my nightstand gun (came with a RDS, and uses the older-type magazines that don't work in the current version--current issue magazines work fine in the older style gun, though, so the spares for my P10F work fine).

Eventually I'll figure out this signature thing and decide what I want to put here.

Hello Sirs (I assume)...
I already have in possession two PX4 Storms. One full-size and one Compact. I was looking to add the sub-compact for years, but could never find one... Anyway, the PX4 line is amazing. Mine are missing the optics cuts. And they are safe queens. Carried very little.
Re: CZ vs Springfield??
7You have Px4's and don't carry them? Very ugly.....JaxTeller wrote: Fri Nov 22, 2024 11:14 pm

My brother carries and swears by his CZ 2075 RAMI - I shot it and see his obsession. I think CZ is missing the boat by not re releasing the RAMI. i have a Px4 SC and love it....from back before the Px4 line was cool. She got a red dot added this Summer and is still at the tippy top of my carry rotation. I'm not a fan of the optics cuts on the Storm pistols but realize my opinion is in the minority.

8A CZ P-10c (AKA the Glock for grownups) is hard to beat.
From personal experience, that is.

9All the plastic-fantastics are pretty much different flavors of vanilla. Wanna muddy the waters further? Can’t go wrong with the Canik TP9 series. Essentially a copy of the Walther P99 series but cheaper than all the other polymer frames on the market yet still a better trigger than a Glock out of the box. Excellent and reliable pistols IMHO. (TP9SFX is a sub $500 pistol with factory optics cut.)

10The proof is in the shooting, like we always recommend rent the guns you're considering and shoot them. Body build is important, see what fits your hand the best, we're all built differently. And what features are more important to you, grip safety, manual safety, decocker, price...

11I used to be a Sig gal, then I started CZ. Now I've got 2 CS pistols and 2 CZ rifles.
Get the CZ.

12I forgot to add.. an external safety is a must.
Yeah, I've had my PX4 since 2012... I've carried them a bit. The full-size PX4 was my deer stand gun with a Range Time Tactical holster.
Carrying the compact all day is a bit of a chore haha. Keeping it in the car, might be different...

Re: CZ vs Springfield??
13If external safety is a must, you might have a look at the HK P30SK, P30S, or P30LS for the full size version. All can be had in DA/SA with external safety. My new HK P30LS with a Langdon trigger job with short reset kit and now enclosed emitter RDO is the only pistol I have ever shot that might make me push a Px4 to the second slot. The ergos and plethora of grip options (all in the box) makes mixing and matching to fit you hand a snap and very ergonomic. Possibly the best of any pistol I have seen.
You can engage the safety in SA, DA, and even rack the slide or bump check (has loaded chamber indicator!) and decock with the safety on.
