And one of the best firearms for self-defense against multiple assailants is a semi-automatic rifle such as an AR-15, chambered in 5.56 NATO or similar. It's relatively lightweight, is shoulder-fired, and has relatively low felt recoil, all making it pretty easy to use for defense. The ammo is affordable and available. Every one of the folks you're mentioning should own one, especially since A.) it's Texas, B.) Palmetto State Armory is having a fire sale on these rifles, and C.) the rifles--and their standard-capacity magazines--are totally legal in Texas.Eris wrote: Sat Nov 16, 2024 6:39 am Thanks for all the responses! I haven't yet made up my mind, but one thing that has been suggested to me is to form a gun trust with someone I know and trust. I've also got an offer to store my guns from someone I do know and trust. I'm still not sure what I'll do, other than go to the range a lot between now and when I leave. Going to the range twice tomorrow, in fact, to let a couple of new people try out various guns. Lots of people in the trans community in Houston are suddenly interested in guns for some totally unknowable reason.
It is, therefore, particularly sad, and I'd even argue discriminatory, that too many officials, including some in Texas, want to ban this fine tool of self-defense. You've faced discrimination. So have I, so I know how it feels, too; please remember that. Therefore, gimme my semi-auto rifle...and give you yours, too.
