Since we don't have a national election commission, it falls to the Associated Press and the TV networks to call the races. All the networks used to use Edison Research, but some broke away like Fox News. Recall that Fox was the first network to call AZ for Biden in 2020 and it cost the head of their elections desk his job, but when all the votes were counted he was right. I'll be interested in the exit polling and see if it matches polls leading up to the election.

Hi folks, been a while. Anyone else genuinely concerned we're about to witness the actual end of American Democracy? I just voted. More people voting than I've ever seen, which is a good sign. I live in Lehigh County, Pennsylvania and around my neighborhood it's a mixed bag. A lot of cult members. Far too many. A number of Harris Walz signs as well though.

There's no positive outcome here. If by some amazing miracle Harris wins, the cultists are going to be violent. I really think January 6th 2021 will look like a picnic compared to what they'd do this time. The other outcome though .... I'd prefer not to think about it.

As in Texas election Politics
Texas AG Ken Paxton doesn't join other attorneys general calling for peaceful transfer of power

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton was not among 51 members of the National Association of Attorneys General who signed a letter on Monday calling for a peaceful transfer of power and condemning violent acts relating to the election results.

Paxton was one of only three state attorneys general who didn’t sign the letter, along with his counterparts in Indiana and Montana.

The letter states that “regardless of the outcome of Tuesday’s election,” they expect Americans to respect the peaceful transfer of power and called on citizens to vote and to respect the democratic process.
And on the Cancun Cruz side of things:

Feds demand Cruz explain nearly $1 million in contributions
Federal elections regulators have asked U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz’s campaign to explain or return almost $1 million worth of contributions that appear to exceed a limit capping individual contributions at $3,300.

The San Antonio Current reported Monday that a letter sent by the Federal Election Commission to Cruz’s campaign on Sunday raised questions about nearly 200 contributions, some of which exceeded the cap by thousands of dollars. Cruz’s campaign must respond or return the money by Dec. 9 or face an audit or enforcement action.

Cruz’s campaign did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

In April, the campaign received a formal campaign finance complaint regarding money sent from a company that syndicates his podcast to a political action committee backing Cruz. The complaint alleged that Cruz’s campaign might have improperly directed radio distribution and marketing firm iHeartMedia to send more than $630,000 to the Truth and Courage PAC. That would exceed a $5,000 limit that an officeholder is permitted under federal regulations to solicit for a super PAC.

Bomb threats in Fulton county Georgia had some polling places temporarily shut down and evacuated. They are up and running now but how many won't go back? Fulton county is heavily Democratic. The Secretary of State said the threats were non credible and of Russian origin.
Whatever I said above, just pretend I included the obligatory “both sides,” especially if I said something mean about Trump (don’t want to hurt any feelings).

Back when Obama was elected, I worked as a volunteer driver in Fulton County to help bus people who didn’t drive to get to their polling station (the most use I ever got out of my little Toyota Minivan). It is a very politically active area being one of the many places where the seed of the Civil Rights sprouted and grew. I have little doubt that the bomb threats merely made voters angry and more determined to vote when the polls reopened.
Fulton county is also where my ex-waifu became a US Citizen, in order to vote for our country’s first African-American President. Now we have another historic opportunity to move America forward: choose the first Woman of Color as leader of our country. GA will once again help lead the way.

Went to the dentist this morning, their offices are 40 plus miles away. In that small city I didn't see any Harris or Trump signs, but signs for every other political office. Just got back to my town and at the main intersection there is a group with a bunch of Trump flags, I didn't realize there were that many different designs. They were drawing a crowd.

I wish we were like foreign countries where there is no campaigning or talk of politics on election day. The parties have had over a year to campaign, give voters some peace on election day. The talking heads on radio and TV just regurgitate what's already been said a number of times.

I was just watching the PBS “Frontline” special:
2024 “The Choice”
https://www.pbs.org/wgbh/frontline/docu ... -vs-trump/

It is a retrospective of the two candidates and how they came to this moment in US History to represent two distinct paths for our country. And really, if you look at this election from the long lense of history, you realize just how far America has come in our lifetime. That Kamala Harris, a daughter of the Civil Rights era, a political realist who always fought for the rights of racial minorities, women, and the under-privileged, has come to this world stage on her own merits, it really does show the trajectory of winning that justice has taken over a relatively short span of time. Whatever our fears are from a prone, dead horse, TOS really does represent our fear-based racist past. And far from seeing power in any a reactionary kick, Kamala Harris clearly represents the strength and tenacity of our future. She is the true winner and leader in my book. And based on her past, it is clear she will lead our country regardless of today’s election results —if only because people need someone like her to focus their trust and ambitions for justice and equality in government. And really, if a two-time loser like TOS can come back to wrestle for the presidency, someone as energetic and scrappy as Harris can easily represent the hopes of America in this new era of Post-Patriarchy and sit in the Oval Office IMHO

Man arrested at Capitol with gasoline and flare gun.

The nutters are acting out… sheesh.
 Gasoline and a flair gun aren't illegal separately, but together are very dangerous. They'll probably find out he's another person with mental illness problems.

Nate Silver's latest forecast now gives Harris a slight edge in the Electoral College, projecting her with a 50 percent chance of victory compared to former President Donald Trump's 49.6 percent. The model shows Harris securing 271 Electoral College votes to Trump's 267.

Pre-pandemic, I did a day of driving folks to the polls as organized by the local A Philip Randolph Institute chapter. I wasn't able to do so today, sadly. It's rewarding volunteer work!

Here in "Lousyville" Kentucky, some of the polling places are church gyms and such. Folks aren't supposed to politic on the grounds, but they get away with sitting between the sidewalk and the street (road right-of-way, I guess) with their hateful signs encouraging folks to vote for this or that candidate (mostly fascist candidates) or for this or that Amendment (we have two potential Amendments on the ballot this year, both of them execrable). I've made a point of flipping off these people as I pass by.

I was under the impression that Kentucky has a statute that requires all the ugly political signs be removed by the end of the week of Election Day. It doesn't get enforced.

Less than about 60% in the forecasts just means it's a tossup, we won't know until after the election if any of the predictions have been accurate. Pennsylvania could be the linchpin, but it was grindingly slow in 2020, we could be on the edge until Saturday. The northeast will go for Harris (ME, NH, VT, RI, CT, NY) except for the 2nd District in ME which is expected to go for Trump. Ohio, West Virginia, Indiana, South Carolina, Florida...will go for Trump. Georgia is in the Eastern Time Zone, they made legislative changes to make counting faster so we'll see. Most of Michigan is in EST, we'll have to see how fast results come in from Wayne County and metro Detroit. It could be a very long night.

My mom just called me to report that there are lines around a building in Pennsylvania--people waiting to vote that will be in line until (probably) well after 8:00 PM.

The news guy who interviewed a number of the folks in line found that many are first-time voters excited to vote for Harris.

I'm cautiously encouraged by this, because of the general sense that high voter turnout often favors Democrats more than Repulsicans.

I'm also certain that syphilitic sycophants of TOS will do whatever they think they can get away with to quash counting of votes against His Orangeness.

I tried to quit biting my nails as a kid, finally stopped (more or less) thirty-some years ago, and will try to not get that nervous tonight and over the next several days and weeks. My taxable-income gig prohibits carrying a firearm or ammunition, and I refuse to leave a firearm in my car in a parking garage, so I'm carrying job-issued OC spray all the time.

I think you're going to need a keg to get through January. But yeah, bourbon or Irish Whiskey is my go to but I don't carry it in the bus.
I threw an AR 556 in the bus today justin case. It's traveling with me from now to January with my 9mm pistola and many mags.
