I don't believe this will come to pass. If he was younger, perhaps. If he was smarter, perhaps. But I don't think one man is capable of pulling our entire system of government down. Talking points and media hysteria certainly say otherwise, though.

I do believe we are in a position that things will further destabilize no matter who wins. The rehtoric of "hate the other" is rarely stabilizing and both sides are employing it.

Yes, there was similar hysteria around the 2000 election and the SCOTUS decision. And it continued in 2004, in 2008 and in 2012, Romney had been head of Bain Capital and all the conspiracies came out. In 2000 and 2004 Dick Cheney was called "Darth Cheney" and condemned along with KBR, now he's acceptable because he's voting for Harris. Republicans aren't the only party that stokes conspiracies. I agree whoever wins will have some tough decisions.

Right now in the polls, Trump leads in battleground state polls but the lead is tiny. Harris leads in the national polls by a small percent. National polls are better at predicting the popular vote and battleground state polls show who is leading in the only states in play in 2024. The polls could be wrong or they could be right, they are just too close so we won't know until election night, probably even later.

But up until 2020 there hadn't been an attempted insurrection.

I'm just waiting for Biden to take full advantage of their decree that presidents have full immunity.
