In Wisconsin, one must get an approval letter from a CLEO to possess a machine gun. The ATF is aware of this and takes it into account for Form 4s for machine guns from Wisconsin.
A recent submission has been denied after a CLEO who requested guidance from the AG's office was told he could not provide an approval letter to an applicant, possibly based on a new interpretation of 941.26(3) by the AG's office. Allegedly, there are >8000 registered machine guns in Wisconsin.
Tom Grieve attempts to explain, but there is no immediate indication the plan is to go after existing possessors of machine guns:
The worst-case scenario is this is a new way the Democratic AG has found to block possession of additional machine guns by the rabble.

2Another brick in The Wall.....
Sounds like Illinois. Let's make it progressively more convoluted and difficult to possess a growing number of firearms or attachments/ammunition until all the people who want and possess such unapproved items give up. More rules, more hoops to jump thru.....more infringement.

3It's what happens when politicians and bureaucrats substitute their personal beliefs for the law. No different than bible thumping politicians who bend the law for their purposes. This is headed for a federal district court in Wisconsin.

4Yes, but the courts have become instruments of political parties. Is the court pro governor’s side or not?highdesert wrote: Wed Sep 04, 2024 9:38 am It's what happens when politicians and bureaucrats substitute their personal beliefs for the law. 5Yes, the Wisconsin Supreme Court went through a very political election a few months ago, to fill one of their seats and Democrats won which tipped the balance of the court. I don't see that court looking favorably on any firearms case.sikacz wrote: Wed Sep 04, 2024 10:58 amYes, but the courts have become instruments of political parties.
