The referendum was approved and now we need at least 50k signatures by registered voters signed in person by every town in the next 30 days or so. This would postpone the enactment (unless Healey decides to retroactively attach an emergency preamble to it) until November 2026 when it goes on the ballot for everyone to then vote on it. There is a mention of H.4885 in the Democratic Massachusetts legislators pass omnibus firearm restriction bill thread as well.

Seems very unlikely H.4885 will be repealed in a state with single-party rule by Democrats. If repealing H.4885 becomes a ballot initiative in 2026, firearm owners are going to lose. MA grave-of-liberty stalwarts could not be more amenable to barriers to the RKBA.

It’s a gamble by some to stall it. Might work. Most MA members seem inclined to sign it.
