That's my S&M M&P 15 from 2007. It came all black with no scope, Troy quad rail, Troy BUIS, chrome-lined barrel, and six Magpul 30-rd magazines.
Shortly thereafter, I replaced the quad rail with the short M.I. lightweight forend. (bottom pic) Eventually, I added that Burris 1-6x24mm illuminated scope after trying and rejecting a few others first. I used Mossy Oak tape to break up the scope's outline. And, I swapped the A2 pistol grip for a Hogue rubber grip, and finally the Bravo Co. textured plastic grip.
Recently, I bought a longer forend to increase the BUIS sight radius and to extend the subdued color over the barrel. I applied some spray paint to the aluminum and plastic. The magazines are next.

4Nice job of personalizing your AR and super thanks for sharing the pix! I'm having a separation anxiety moment looking at your gun as mine has been in a safe in another State as possession is a felony without registration/disclosure affidavit here in Illinois.

Re: AR-15 before, after
7There are those who swear by the Harris 'pods but all my guns needing bipods wear Atlas. I had an instructor some years ago who told folks enrolling in class not to bring firearms with Harris bipods to class or their money would be refunded at class time and they would not be permitted to train. I just never used anything but Atlas stuff but others are extremely upset by this mindset.SubRosa wrote: Sun Aug 25, 2024 1:13 pm VooDoo has the right bipod.

9I'm not a big fan of bipods. I consider the 16" 5.56mm rifle to be short to medium range, so I'm not planning to use one.SubRosa wrote: Sun Aug 25, 2024 1:13 pm VooDoo has the right bipod.

Re: AR-15 before, after
11I have a Harris bipod purchased forty+ years ago. It broke about seven or so years back, sent it back cause they said could fix, sent me a brand new one, no charge. They're just fold out sticks, sturdy enough for purpose. I knew a fellow who made one from PVC pipe & fittings, slid over barrel, worked fine. More important than camo, less important than a good trigger.
I used to groundhog hunt, now it pinch hits for front sandbag rest.
Secret Service uses them, so you know they're cool.

Re: AR-15 before, after
12Apparently he had several students at different times mount their Harris bipods such that the legs folded backwards and they collapsed/folded under when loading the bipod. Precision shooting and half of the first day was on proper positioning and loading the bipod. Apparently it's pretty scary when you are loading the bipod progressively and it collapses just as you pull the trigger. To save himself from checking everyone's stuff before every class he just banished bipods that fold or deploy under spring tension.Buck13 wrote: Wed Aug 28, 2024 11:21 am Jeez, that seems kinda severe! There has been much cussing and discussing on several precision shooting forums about it but it 's off topic (as the OP isn't using or wanting a bipod) and I apoligize for off topic discussion in that regard.

In my experience, OT discussion is a sacrament on the LGC forum. This ain't The High Road! (A good forum, but the mods are way too sensitive.)There has been much cussing and discussing on several precision shooting forums about it but it 's off topic (as the OP isn't using or wanting a bipod) and I apoligize for off topic discussion in that regard.

Re: AR-15 before, after
14Now, I haven't been on the High Road since I had an argument with Art Eatman (used to be a mod there, then he went and died) about whether the term "wetback" was derogatory.
His position was that since "...he was white, (and) since he lived in Texas, he would know."
He saw nothing wrong with that statement.
When you have bona-fide racists in charge, the outcome is not a "good forum", by most definitions.
Over the years, they may have improved. After all, even racists die and go away.
But I doubt it. It's there, at the very top, and it infects everything they say.

Re: AR-15 before, after
15I've wondered about bipods. I know a lot more about 1911s than I do about rifles, but I own an AR and have been reading about them since I was in the army.
What I've seen and read was, from the outside, idiotic.
There was a trend to make the AR (and the 16) lighter and shorter. Then lighter and shorter. This was good.
Then they put rails on the handguards and started making it heavier and longer again. Lights. Laser designators. Bipods. Suppressors. And now they're arguing about how the extra weight and length doesn't work.
