Mounting a carbine

1
Ok, I didn’t see anything in the forum yet (feel free to point me to it if there is) about mounting a carbine in a defensive environment.

I did a fair amount of dove/pigeon hunting as a kid with a shotgun, and some skeet shooting years ago. I also get a fair bit of practice shooting iguanas out of my fruit trees with an air rifle, lol.

However, from what I’ve seen, the mount for a carbine is different. It appears that the idea is to bring it up higher, so that you don’t drop your face onto the cheek as much. I understand this is to keep your vision in the combat space.

Is that accurate? I assume that is why the optic is mounted so high as well.

I understand why that may be, and I understand that being able to hit what you’re aiming at is the most important thing overall.

I guess the question is should I invest the time to alter my mount from standard shotgun to the more tactical mount on the carbine?

Saddle. Cute. Enjoyed.

I made my carbine stock to fit my body such that putting both eyes on the target and raising the carbine into my shoulder puts both rear and front sights directly on the target.
