I have a bare cheapest AR15, which I may or may not upgrade at some point. It would be nice to have a durable, free-floating AR15, with a sub MOA barrel, a good scope, and throw in a glass polished trigger for good measure, but I don't think I'm willing to spend on that.

11In his recent book, Gun Curious, David Yemane defines "super gun owner" as one who has eight or more guns.
One need not be a high-end collector to get there. My journey through finding the "right" EDC pistol has me at eight or nine so far, not counting the long guns.
Eventually I'll figure out this signature thing and decide what I want to put here.

13Clearly an uninformed position to spout. The best selling gun safes in all the big box stores are sized for 30 guns (hold about twenty in reality).BearPaws wrote: Fri Jul 12, 2024 7:59 pm :

I belong to two large gun clubs, with over 2,000 members combined, the average owners I know from that groups all have 10 minimum to 20 for the low end... Even the casual shooters usually have closer to 25 than 8. Plenty of members have 50 and up. I'm over 100 and I look up to the guys with serious collections, I'm just getting started.
Shotguns for clay sports and hunting, and rifles for sports shooting and hunting , handguns for protection and competition gets you to about 12 just for that.
Not counting collecting guns, inherited guns, guns you take the kids out to shoot, etc. That's not even counting the folks who are into ARs and Aks and collect countries of origin, barrel lengths, calibers, rifle, pistol and brace combinations, etc.

The toughest competition shooters all have an equal problem competing against other serious pros.
Shooting Pistol is easy if you are talking about still targets. Moving targets is the hardest, and for that you are talking about shotguns, trap and skeet. In my mind, a perfect round of trap, twice in a row, is Master level. That's 50 out of 50. Real pros can hit 100 straight. (not me!)
The best female Olympic athlete ever in America is a trap shooter. "Kim Rhode achieved Olympic history in women’s shooting, winning the bronze medal in Skeet to become the first woman and first summer Olympian to medal in six consecutive Olympics.
In her career, Rhode has won three golds, one silver and two bronzes. She is the only athlete ever to win Olympic medals in all three shooting disciplines (trap, double trap and skeet) since making her Olympic debut and winning the double trap gold at Atlanta 1996 as a 17-year-old.

Also, so you can be less uninformed, he's actually been a member of the firearms community for decades.
I am morbidly curious as to how this, in your mind, disqualifies his use of the term "super gun owner" in his conversation.ShootingSports wrote: Fri Jul 12, 2024 8:50 pm The best selling gun safes in all the big box stores are sized for 30 guns (hold about twenty in reality).
I mean, it's not like that's a technical description of an official category or anything....

24Hello from Illinois, close to St Louis. I am also a recent member here.
Well nice to meet you!
I have fired several handguns before and disliked all of them except the one I bought for myself. I really like the FN Five-Seven. It has so little recoil that it hardly seems different than a 22lr. It's also very lightweight which I like a lot about it. I keep thinking of going through the concealed carry classes here but so far I haven't set aside time to do it. Although it's light it's not exactly small so I still wonder about getting something smaller like a .32 or something for a carry pistol.I don't like handguns, to be honest. As odd as it sounds, they scare me. I much prefer rifles. But yeah, I'd rather keep the guns poor than myself.
Well nice to meet you!
