Range bags: Who has what?

1
A thread started by VodoundaVinci on UpLula mag loaders got me thinking about my range bag, and wondering whether folks want to share their choices.

My initial range bag was a tool bag from Harbor Freight. It was big enough to hold the carry cases provided with the pistols my wife and I were schlepping, a few boxes of ammo, eye/ear protection, and some doodads like markers and stickers to paste up holes in the targets. I liked that it didn't look like a range bag, in case we stopped somewhere and it was sitting in the car, but we made a point of going straight to the range and straight home most trips.

My current bag is an earlier version of this thing, from Academy Sports. The lower section holds three pistol "rugs" and a magazine "rug" (complete with MAG stitching on the spine, and it holds ten magazines using elastic loops). Eye protection for the two of us ride in Chum cases hanging from the outside, and the large upper section holds ear pro, a container of lead wipes from Hoppe's, a MagLula, and whatever else needs to fit. One of the side pockets is home for a small selection of tools, and the other holds a jar of ear plugs. The bag has a glasses pocket, and if I were the only one using the bag, I'd probably use it more, but I like the Chums cases for keeping the lenses from getting mashed.

Since mine is an earlier version, mine is grey rather than black.

I have three different range bags I use, two smaller ones, one dedicated to 1911 pieces parts, return springs, guide rods, barrel bushings. It also has a spare commander slide and some pieces parts left over from past 1911s like hammers and safeties.

The second is a smaller satchel style that I use with non-1911s and holds ears and glasses and a timer and several UpLulas. It has lots of external compartment for ammo and stuff and a segregated space for two handguns.

They are both smaller and lighter than my let's take 1911s bag that has slots for eight magazines and room for up to four 1911s.

I have no idea what the brands are or when and where I bought them.

I started with a tote bag. I couldn't see paying all that money for a tacticool bag! Some time ago, I drove an hour to a store/range when a CZ rep was going to be there to let people tryout some fancy new CZ's. When I got to the store, I found that the CZ rep wasn't there. They sent me a CZ range bag as an apology.

I go with two non-descript bags, one is a backpack with the ammo, loaded mags and mag loaders. The other has compartments for the handguns. They're light polyester materials. It just depends on how many guns I take.

I got a five dollar special very robust tool bag from a sale at a big box hardware store about twenty years ago. One zipper on top and two external small pockets. It holds my ear plugs, ammo, cleaning supplies, various tools, and some small bottles holding stuff for range use. I carry my hand guns in a locking padded briefcase. It has matching padlocks on the hasps. This is California.

I have an older version of this Blackhawk Range Bag. Enough Room for a couple of pistols in pistol sleeves, ammunition, PPE, some basic tools, first aid kit with bleed stop and such, magazines, etc. Way better than I deserve and it has served me well for decades. Used to carry all my gun stuff in whatever I could find but saw this fancy bag at the LGS and lusted mightily for it.

My Wife later purchased it as a gift for me....mostly because she was tired of me rooting thru bags of disorganized stuff when we went to the range.

LOL VooDoo! I have a fairly recent version of that very bag that I use as my "briefcase" for work (I am a security officer at a local distillery). It mostly carries my lunch and bottles of tea that I bring from home, but also carries some trauma kit, a bowl and eating utensils, and an assortment of doodads I like to keep close when I'm in a building by myself for a twelve-hour shift to make life more bearable. It replaced a backpack-style bag I bought from a local gun store, the lining of the material was flaking off and getting in my stuff. I probably carry much more stuff than I need in that bag, but I've grown fond of the thing.

I have almost as many range bags as unused holsters! LOL My current is the GPS Handgunner Backpack, quite extensively modified to meet my needs. Plus a separate Blackhawk bag for ammo. The challenge now is to get healthy enough to get to a range.

Nice kit Wino! It's easier for me to carry two bags, the backpack with ammo, mags and everything else and a separate one for the guns. Saw a guy at a gun range one day who traveled very light, he had one small pistol bag with a SIG, loaded mags and ammo, eye and ear protection he had in his jacket. He did some good shooting and left in less than an hour. I like to use all the time I've paid for, so I switch guns and calibers.

I needs me a back pack now. I have a lot of the GPS pistol sleeves and they are awesome. I found 200 rounds of hand loaded 6.5 CM while cleaning up the shop/loading area so I'm hoping to get to the 600 yard rang yet this year and trekking my stuff with a backpack would be a lot easier.

Get well enough to shoot soon, Wino.

I'm not nearly as organized as all that. Most everything goes in the bag. The heavy stuff sinks to the bottom. There's where I'll find a round from a gun I sold six years ago or something. Ear plugs dangle from the handle in a little container. Muffs in the bag.

That's me, too! Usually take 3-5 handguns to range (pistol & revolver) various calibers and plenty of ammo for all. I'm not time limited at my range, so I arrive early morn and leave early afternoon and stop in a nearby Mexican Restaurant on way home. Could go thru 200-300 rds. easily and come away relax and at ease. Was pretty much a ritual almost once a month or more, until COVID came along (which, knock on wood I have avoided), but other health issues since screwed the routines. I'm so horny to pop a few caps I can't see straight - really frustrating.

My current setup is a bit of a mix-and-match, but it works for me. I started with a basic duffel bag, but it quickly became a black hole where finding anything took forever. Now, I’ve upgraded to a dedicated range bag from 5.11 Tactical. It’s got all the compartments I need—pistol pouches, mag slots, and enough space for ammo, ear and eye protection, and a small first aid kit. I especially appreciate the sturdy build and how organized it keeps everything. The front pocket is great for quick access to tools, and the padded shoulder strap is a lifesaver when the bag is loaded up

I saw this 'bag' at a range a couple of years ago. It is made for disc golf and even has a seat!
