Ahoy Fellow Libs of Gun World!

Feels funny to identify as a gun owner. It's not like a tribal identity that I carry around. It's just who I am. Armed, and believing in responsible ownership, but not something featured as part of my usual social activities.

One of the reasons I joined LBC, last year, is my concern over the lack of local training and practice resources. Our local police range, once open, was closed to to the public in the '70s after an incident. Over the years of the pandemic there was a surge in purchasing around here, but as far as I can see no increase in training resources. The nearest accessible range is a half-hour drive. And we have a ton of new firearm owners. There was a time I might have considered working with the NRA to set up something, but that's no longer an option, really. I'd like to see if we can get the local sheriffs or PD officers to do some community training, but that's just something I've recently been looking into. We'll see what happens.

I learned firearm safety and basic marksmanship as a kid in scouting and with my father, a Navy vet, using a hex barrel pump .22 at the local police range that was open to the public in those days. The rifle was loaned to us by a local police lieutenant, over the desk at the station (!). Different times. Since then I've seldom been on the range. A few times overseas local PD and military took me along on shoots, but here in CONUS not too much.

Beside a few very old antique pieces I inherited, my personal armory is pretty limited. Springfield M1a and a Ruger MkIII. Oh, I've also got at de-watted 3-inch 50 deck gun, on the submarine mount. Strictly decoration, haha.

Anyway, thanks for letting me join. I think this could be a valuable resource, and fun too.

:welcome: from over Kentucky, home of two of the worst Senators currently misrepresenting people in that allegedly-august body (I speak, of course, of #MoscowMitch and #RancidPaul).

I'm in a blue-ish area of a state that seems to always vote against its best interests.
Eventually I'll figure out this signature thing and decide what I want to put here.
