30 pieces. Had to hunt for priming tool shell holder. Unique must be bulkier than yesteryears'. Lee dipper was way short. of goal, although the dipper set is way old also, maybe they shrank. Used the Little Dandy and #13 rotor for just a smidge under max. Weighed about 20 throws, all dead on. No measure inconsistency. Bullets are so-so plastic coated cheapo.

Wife is under the weather. When better, I'll see how they do.

Don't know how I always manage to get the pictures in reverse order.

Hmm...your cases are clean even on the inside, enough so that I can see the powder flakes from the reflection. CDFingers once referred to me as a pretty fastidious reloader. You've got me beat, man. That looks nice.

I'll probably try out the Lee Pro Auto-Disk Powder Measure with this powder, but if it doesn't throw the big flakes consistently, I'll switch up to something that does better with that.

Unique used to be a lot dirtier than now, made cleaner some decades ago, I think. Although I have a chrono, I don't use it that much as it is a pain, and am quite bad at writing stuff down to know what I've done. With rare exception, like crappy bullets, the accuracy seems to me about the same all the way around. May get better velocities from another powder, but I have a Mod. 29 for that. Rarely shoot the thing now days but just might load up some due to this post.

Might even use Unique!
Nice to hear about your .44 Special Blackhawk! Unique is a great powder for it, and it's good to know they've made it cleaner over the years. I'm with you on not always chronographing and keeping track of loads - sometimes it's just nice to shoot and enjoy the experience. If you do end up loading up some rounds, I'd love to hear how they turn out!

Went to range this morning, also to see what the county fair is up to (across the road from range), to shoot some .44 Spl. that I loaded the other day. Although the load listed in the book was near the top for the powder (Unique, w/240 grain LSWC), they seem mild judging by recoil. Chrono velocity is on par with the book, which has been my experience. Cases nearly drop from chambers without prodding. Ruger makes a tough little shootin iron.

Have no target data, as there were shooters there blasting away and I ran out of staples anyway. No one would have been impressed.

Did I mention I got a LabRadar pocket version? Fits in the glove box.

Very nice display there. My old Chrony is not nearly so complete. Seems like yours might be able to cook you breakfast. :-) In .45LC my go-to load for a 240gr LRNFP is 8.5 gr Unique that gives me 950 fps out a 4 5/8 barrel. I think maybe .44's fear me. ;-)

In a project that took most of a year, I have replaced all my Unique, Bullseye and 231 loads with Titegroup.

Much, much cleaner than any of them, and not position sensitive.

PapaJim: thanks for showing your chrony data. That's about what Lyman's also says. And BTW, pretty sweet Blackhawk you've got there.

CDFingers: thanks for yours as well. When I get/make some time, I'll try the 255gr LRNFP with it. That speed you mentioned is about the same as the original .45 Colt's black powder load with the 255gr pill. This is very encouraging, as the .45 Colt was considered a bit of a powerhouse back in the day.

Ylatkit: Titegroup does work quite well in both .44 Spl and .45 Colt, no question. It is currently my go-to powder for both cartridges (well, .45 Colt when doing the normal SAAMI loads, heh heh). However, Unique being a bulky powder, similar to Trail Boss in that regard, position sensitivity may not be an issue. I still have to try it out.

This is pretty neat, talking about primarily wheelgun cartridges and actually firing them in wheelguns. Don't get me wrong; a good semi-auto is a fine tool as well, and I do love me some 1911's. The polymer-framed pistols are also very functional and practical. But there's just somethin' about a smokewagon....

Yeah, when I worked up my load for the .45LC I wanted to duplicate the original velocity. I shoot a Ruger Vaquero old model, so I knew the gun could handle it. I loaded up several bigger charges in my experiments and I got up to 10.5 gr Unique. I shot two of them and kept the other four. I prolly won't shoot them unless I'm confronted by a t. rex. They big medicine.

I suppose I should try some other powders for the Vaquero, but I have a full one plus about a half of another of Unique. I may shoot it up before I try something new. I mean, I have an excellent and accurate load. In working up loads for rifles, when I got a good and predictable load for a rifle I had begun loading for and then got a good one, I'd either go to another already made rifle or I'd build another.

With pistols, the only one I've not made the perfect load for is my GP100, my PD gun. I perhaps have fallen prey to the stories of guys who got in trouble in self defense by using a custom load. The stories say shooters were accused of making "killer" loads. I've done some good stuff with the .38, but I've only done three different loadings for the .357 and only shot them for practice. It remains loaded with factory 158 gr jacketed hollow point rounds. I don't know if the stories are true, but factory ammo does not give them a chance to claim "killer" hand loads.
