We can see from the sparse attendance that academic writing and subjects, especially academic writing about Gun Culture, is tedious. I lived in academia for about forty years, including going to school. I see it. I understand others' trepidation about wading into the water of academic gun culture. However, in his closing remarks today, David Yamane summarizes many things. One is that gun owners feel safer with a gun in the house. He doesn't just "say it." He backs it up with research. As a liberal gun owner, I feel safer with a gun in the house because I know my .45-70 can take out a scimitar-wielding zombie riding a saber-toothed wildebeest. At 500 meters if I do my part.
I think there is a solution to the tedium of academia with respect to Dr. Yamane's streams. Those folks not used to academic tedium should put his podcasts on fairly loudly while doing housework, or chores, or while working out to prevent done-lap disease, while reloading their favorite calibers, and so on. I mean, how often do we use "teleology" in conversation?
His ideas are valuable and enlightening with respect to liberals who own guns. One of his claims is that "the meaning of a rifle is in its use."
