If you are anywhere near Houston the Carter's Country Range up north is having a Tisas Day. I have not heard a lot about them, but what I have heard is good things. My LGS has one and Played with trigger and reset, not bad. Smooth slide as well.

I currently own three Tisas 1911s. It was Tisas that finally convinced me that the 1911 could be a viable platform after two horrible experiences with a new Colt 80 series in the 1980s and a Dan Wesson Pointman/Patriot semi custom in the 1990s. The key thing for me is that all three of my Tisas 1911s has worked flawlessly with any ammo or magazine I've tried with just one exception. I had a couple Wilson Combat 920s that wouldn't feed however simply changing out the followers to CheckMate followers solved even that problem, I've used 7 & 8 round magazines from MecGar, CheckMate, Wilson Combat, ACT, Ed Brown, Chip McCormick and surplus USGI and all just work.

There was a recent recall on some Tisas 1911s, but not all of them. You should be able to Google that up easy enough. Sig230 had me looking really really hard at one last summer but the LGS ran out of the model I liked before I could scrape up the funds. Stupid medical expenses. Stupid inflation.

The gun store/range where I used to work carries Tisas 1911 pistols. I sold a few of them myself to some of our customers. They were pretty happy with them. The GI-spec (M1911A1) Tisas pistols are solid firearms and are not affected by the recall. I've shot one, and it felt a lot like the "basic" Springfield 1911, just for less money.

I can recommend these pistols based on their quality and value for the dollar spent.

The recall only involves a relatively small number of new models and the process has been posted.

Tisas is making a wide variety of other firearms as well. I have a Tisas Fatih Beretta 80 series .380 clone and also a Zigana K which is an original design heavily influenced by the Sig P226 and CZ 75.
Fatih .380 similar to my 7.65 Beretta
Fatih .380 similar to my 7.65 Beretta
Zigana K 9mm double stack
Zigana K 9mm double stack
Like the other Tisas they have simply worked from the very first round.

I REALLY like the WW2 GI style Tisa's; very sweet pistols. But make sure you want a classic, or a modern classic before buying. If you're one who gets bit by the hammer on a GI gun, then you may want something with a beavertail grip safety. I'm one of the lucky ones who doesn't get bit, so I love the GI style.

Tisas impresses me with their clean machine work and tolerances. I have two Zigana Sport 9MM. Easy to rack, soft shooters and accurate.

I was all set to buy one of the Tisa's GI 1911's, and I stumbled on a mint condition 1972 S&W 39-2 for the same price on the used shelf. That pistol was way under priced, and I just had to have it. I've been in the market for a range toy 9mm since most of my handguns are of much more expensive chamberings. I have always loved the way they feel in the hand. So I get to shoot on the cheap, but its always cooler with a classic.

Still, I really want a Tisa's GI 1911. Can't quite decide if I want one in .45 or 9mm. Probably 9mm since its just going to be a range toy as well.

Got a soft spot for the 39/59 platform. I'd have to lean that way if I found a 39 selling at the Tisas GI models price point.

Ask yourself what you want to do with it. Tisas makes a close copy of the 1911A1 that would have been made during WWII: this would be perfect for someone who wanted to participate in Civilian Marksmanship Program matches that require as-issued or repros. It would be bad for bandleaders because they beat up brass, and bad for serious use because they have dinky sights. If you want to shoot any target semi-wadcutter ammo through it, the barrels are not throated for it, only for round nose.
Tisas makes several pistols which range from very similar to as-issued, to very tact-cool, some in full 5 inch barrel, some in Commander length (4.25" barrel).
I have experience with the GI repro and the slightly modified version ("Service"). The GI repro is parked, which is highly durable. The Service is Cerrocoated, which is a paint, and is quickly damaged by many holsters and things such as fired brass bouncing off the slide. Both had springs which I did not like the look of, so will replace. Both shot exceedingly well for their price point.
