Anybody out there use this?
I'ts been impossible to get hold of IMR4350 or H4831, but my local Bi-Mart has lots of StaBALL 6.5.
I bought a pound of it yesterday on a reccomendation and if I can get some more feedback, I may get another.
The burn rate falls exactly between IMR4350 (my fav) and H4831. It appears to be a highly regarded powder, but there isn't much data on it out there.
My 6.5M-S has a 24" bbl, where most loading data is for the 18" carbines. I've been using the 3rd Ed. Hornady Manual, but again 18" bbl.
On the Norma site, the M-S is nearly identical to the 260 Rem. and 6.5 CM, even exceeding them in some instances, but again data is thin and they also don't tell you the bbl length. Does anybody know what bbls they use? (ed- Found it, 600mm +-10mm so~24")
They do show a load using the 140gr Nosler Partions and 41.2 gr. of N204 pushing 2628 FPS. StaBall is only slightly slower than N204.
Norma also has 44gr. of MRP at 2677fps. So obviously, the slower powders give better velocities.
The Hornady 3rd ed. shows the Hornady 140 SP 40.9gr of N204 reaching 2200fps while the Norma site has the same bullet at 2585fps for 41.2gr.
A significant boost for only .3gr (<1%)...
I picked up 200 140gr Nosler Ballistic Tips at the Shooter's Pro Shop for $68 and plan to use them to develop a new load. I left 50 behind, but may go back for them...
I'm thinking of starting at 40gr of StaBALL and working up from there.
Any thoughts?
