For the last hour and a half) but please believe when i say that i wish you all the peace that i have right now. And that it's a beautiful picture lol

Thanks,

I didn't like it much as a kid, though my dad's favorite soup was beef & barley. Personal favorite is Manhattan clam chowder, with New England clam chowder as a close 2nd.

Agreed! I used to eat canned beef and barley soup mixed with canned beef vegetable soup pretty often.

As for the Bourbon Whiskey (or Whisky, if you prefer), I'm partial to Old Forester, but semi-special occasions call for Old Forester 1910 "Old Fine," and really special occasions call for one of the single-barrel expressions I've been gifted at work (I'm a security guard at the Old Forester Distillery in Louisville--it's a plum security gig, to be sure!).

I sometimes get reject barrel staves, which make MARVELOUS firewood for the little fire pit we have. The ones I usually get have been charred, and the barrel then rejected for reasons unclear to me. I got some that were not yet charred a couple years ago, and they are in my stepfather's wood shop for him to use in one or another of his hobby projects (he likes to turn bowls on his lathe, for example).
Eventually I'll figure out this signature thing and decide what I want to put here.

For really, REALLY special occasions I go for a glass of Blanton's Single Cask. Gotten really hard to find so I'm VERY parsimonious with it!

Bourbon barrel staves can only be used once, by law. So what to do with them after they're done? Turns out there's a brisk export business, because Scotland has no such law - and we all know the penny-pinching stereotype. They break down the barrels stateside, ship them to the UK, and coopers reassemble them for a second run aging Scotch whisky. There are concerns that fancier varieties aged further in sherry casks may become endangered, as the sherry industry isn't what it used to be.

So go ahead and burn it, you heathen.

And many a Scots distiller happily displays on their labels and websites that their whisky is aged in American bourbon barrels. MacAllan's and a few other distillers also use old sherry casks for aging, it adds wonderful flavor.
