Speer rifle bullets coming down in price quite nicely

1
Just noticed over at MidwayUSA that Speer rifle bullets, which had been Unobtainium over the last 3 years, are now on sale. With this sale, they're even less now than the "Factory Second" bullets are. I have shot several brands and types of bullets, including those from Speer, and they're good stuff, too.

Haven't gotten to a rifle range yet to try 'em out. But the weights are pretty consistent so far, no more than 1 grain difference and usually closer to half a grain. For hunting within reasonable (say, 400 yards) ranges, that's quite sufficient. I intend them for use with the 7mm-08.

The Gold Dots are out of stock because law enforcement agencies use them. The Smithsonian Police, who still carry revolvers (S&W Model 64's in .38 Special) and I were talking about it. They shared with me that their issue ammo is Gold Dots, and I thought, "well, at least they got good stuff if ever they should really need it."

There are Speer Gold Dots in rifle-style profiles as well, and yep, they're out of stock, too.

Overseas Speer Gold Dot 9 mm is what the Swedish Police (a national force) and other Swedish forces and Norwegian police forces. In 2020 Speer got the contract to supply the French National Police (they operate in urban areas), the Gendarmerie (paramilitary that police rural areas), Customs, Border and Corrections. That's a nice chunk of change for Speer.

What I Don't Understand

I've never understood why someone would use imperfect rounds to load rifle. But that lack of understanding is probably because of the reasons I load rifle.

Of the reasons to reload, the two that keep me coming back are one, better ammunition. Not cheaper, better. To me, for rifle, better means first, consistent, and second, more accurate. And any flaw in a rifle bullet can defeat both tines of that, right out of the gate.

And the second reason, of course, is that I enjoy the process.

But the main payoff for me is a shot, including me, the rifle, the scope and the ammunition, that is as accurate as I can make it. I don't understand why someone would bother going to the time, expense and trouble of buying, maintaining and shooting a rifle-scope combination that wouldn't deliver better accuracy than my skill will, and once selected, purchased, organized, zeroed and taken to the range, why someone at that point would bother loading it with ammo that may undermine the whole purpose of the exercise.

That's the fun part. To see if your groups look like any of the constellations. When I have the hiccups, Cassiopeia is in view. Now, I was born under the sign of Aquarius, so for that I need a strong crosswind and lots of coffee.
I ordered a case of optimism from Amazon, but porch pirates beat me to it. Still, chin-up.

Generally, I would agree here, and I think most would...but it does seem kinda out of the blue. What prompted you to point this out?
