I like this a lot. A couple of steps in the direction of a society I'd like to live in.

sika, I think this is just a "nicety" to try to build bridges with other groups. It's just a more effective coalition building approach than saying, "Your stupid gun control measures aren't going to do anything, so now let's do something that's really effective." I understand why it annoys you, but I'm good with it.

I’m sure it’s as you noted, yes, it’s annoying. LoL 😂. Just dislike the pandering, if I thought the gun control faction could actually be reasoned with I wouldn’t be so upset and negative.

I get it, for sure. The love of my life is mostly anti-gun. It's not annoying to me because I know it comes from a place of caring -- she stops on the road to help turtles get to the other side, rescues baby raccoons, etc. It's one of the reasons I fell in love with her. So, I've become adept at finding ways to bridge the gap. Basically we avoid direct debate on the issue, and I try to keep bringing it back around to what we agree on -- efforts to build a society that isn't so screwed up and hopeless for so many people. What you and I call "root cause mitigation." I'm looking forward to showing her this effort by the LGC. It also motivated me to renew my membership.

Yup, they're trying to build a big tent and they kissed up to state legislators. I noticed this on the list, "Implement statewide, income-based utility affordability programs for water, electric, gas, and internet services."

That's important, but Michigan has a big problem with cutting utilities during the winter and people dying.
A 93-year-old man froze to death inside his home just days after the municipal power company restricted his use of electricity because of unpaid bills, officials said. Marvin E. Schur died "a slow, painful death," said Kanu Virani, Oakland County's deputy chief medical examiner, who performed the autopsy. Neighbors discovered Schur's body on Jan. 17. They said the indoor temperature was below 32 degrees at the time, The Bay City Times reported Monday.

"Hypothermia shuts the whole system down, slowly," Virani said. "It's not easy to die from hypothermia without first realizing your fingers and toes feel like they're burning." 'Limiter' device installedSchur owed Bay City Electric Light & Power more than $1,000 in unpaid electric bills, Bay City Manager Robert Belleman told The Associated Press on Monday. A city utility worker had installed a "limiter" device to restrict the use of electricity at Schur's home on Jan. 13, said Belleman. The device limits power reaching a home and blows out like a fuse if consumption rises past a set level. Power is not restored until the device is reset.

Police have confirmed a 62-year-old man died of hypothermia inside his home in Freeland, located in western Saginaw County. In a press release issued the evening of Monday, Feb. 17, Tittabawassee Township police stated they responded to the house of Arnoul Jaros at 9684 Mulberry Court within Falconview Estates about 2:30 p.m. on Feb. 15 for a well-being check. It had been at least two months since Jaros had had contact with relatives, according to police. Relatives said they contacted police after trying to invite Jaros to a family dinner.

Tittabawassee Township firefighters assisted in using door spreaders to gain entry to the house. Inside, they and police found Jaros deceased, his “body in a frozen state.” “The victim was emaciated, and the cause of death was determined to be accidental hyperthermia (sic),” the release states. Police determined there was no electricity to the house and the temperature was at 25 degrees, they said. Consumers Energy advised that power and gas had been shut off due to nonpayment in July, police said. The bill was paid in full on July 15, but Consumers was not contacted after the payment to restore the utilities, police said.
