I'm sorry I'd buy it and drink it if it actually tasted like beer.
I was tempted though.

2Never cared for Bud Light. Anheuser-Busch now owned by Belgium's InBev has made billions over the years. They totally missed that we're in the midst of another culture war and they stepped into it.

20-25 years ago, my cousin offered me "a beer". It was a nearly-frozen Lite and despite being so cold, I couldn't drink more than 1/3 before the awful taste got to me.
The closest thing to a commercial American beer that I'll drink is Sam Adams.
Of course, these days, when I can only drink a little every few days, I don't drink beer at all, only near-beer like Kaliber or Guinness Zero (which looks, tastes and feels like Stout).

5When I was in high school, it was "cool" to get and drink beer--just about anything advertised as "beer." As sometimes happened in that age, a parent would buy the beer for a party, as long as all who attended agreed to not drive home until several hours after the last of the beer had been consumed.
During that time, I found that no matter what beer was offered, I didn't like Budweiser. Bud Light wasn't on the market then--Miller Lite was around, but not popular.
To this day I find Anheuser-Busch products gag-inducing, but I'm glad they did some marketing that pissed off the fascists...

7I get Bud Light isn’t a great beer, fine. But, what about the original issue, standing with inclusion of the transgender community versus being on the same side as the conservative bigots like baby rock. Admittedly the executive’s at bud lights’ parent company are back peddling as fast as they can, but where’s the solidarity to the transgender community. I think it deserves better discussion from this group than how awful Bud Light is as a beer.

To the point of the company aiming for inclusion: I'm glad of it. I also recognize that it's a business decision; they want to find a buyer demographic to replace the old white cretins as they pass on to other journeys (attrition being a thing, after all...).
Frankly, I don't know that their attempt at inclusivity got them enough more sales than it lost them, purely because of the demographics of who does/doesn't drink their product. If an article on Faux Nooz is to be believed (and I'm always suspicious of the veracity of anything from that network), their net sales went down, suggesting that the LGBTQ+ community isn't interested enough in their product based on a little bit of marketing. The folks in that demographic tend to be pretty savvy consumers, in my limited experience.
And it seems to me that a LOT of the Bud Light market IS older, Caucasian, imagines itself as rural, and has unfortunate attitudes about inclusion.
Eventually I'll figure out this signature thing and decide what I want to put here.

All this publicity can't really hurt the LGBT cause either. The fact that BL has been attacked so virulently [1. a. : marked by a rapid, severe, and destructive course. ] just goes to show you how stupid MAGA types are.
And yes the beer sucks. What Budweiser should do is double down and plaster Mulvaney's face all over the cans in a special edition. Then I'd buy a case of it and give it to my MAGA father-in-law. lol

13It's not just Anheuser-Busch.
https://apnews.com/article/target-pride ... 53d7b9acf0Target is removing some items from its stores and making other changes to its LGBTQ+ merchandise nationwide ahead of Pride month after intense backlash from some customers who confronted workers and tipped over displays. “Since introducing this year’s collection, we’ve experienced threats impacting our team members’ sense of safety and well-being while at work,” Target said in a statement Tuesday. ”Given these volatile circumstances, we are making adjustments to our plans, including removing items that have been at the center of the most significant confrontational behavior.”
Target said that customers knocked down Pride displays at some stores, angrily approached workers and posted threatening videos on social media from inside the stores. Target declined to specify Wednesday which items it was removing but among the ones that garnered the most attention were “tuck friendly” women’s swimsuits that allow trans women who have not had gender-affirming operations to conceal their private parts. Designs by Abprallen, a London-based company that designs and sells occult- and satanic-themed LGBTQ+ clothing and accessories, have also created backlash. The Pride merchandise has been on sale since early May. Pride month is held in June. Target confirmed that it has moved its Pride merchandise from the front of the stores to the back in some Southern stores after confrontations and backlash from shoppers in those areas.

Re: No Remorise for BUD LIGHT
17Well, since all I drink is NA beer, I guess I'll keep my eyes open for a Busch Light NA, which would be the company's only NA offering, and buy a 12-pack out of solidarity. I'll keep it on my shopping list, but I've never seen it out here, and probably never will anytime soon.
My vice is Old Milwaukee NA. Since it does have < .5% ETOH, it's kind of a grey area in the recovery community, but in the early days, an old rocker recommended I just not worry about it, particularly if I'm someplace I'm likely to be tempted, and he was right. Biologically, it's silly to avoid NA beer if it doesn't trigger a lust for the real thing, which in me it never did. The ABV of NA beer is, weirdly, about the same as orange juice.
I've never had more than two or three of the things at a time, and with real beer... well, let's just say you couldn't count on that, which is why I jumped on the water wagon.
One thing I love about it is the slogan: "Brewed For That Wonderful World of Leisure." Ha! As if this would be the drink of choice for those who earn millions and retire at 45 or whatever.

Re: No Remorise for BUD LIGHT
20SunRise, from one nondrinker to another, I also have no problem with the <0.5% of NA beer. When I was a drinker, stouts and porters were my thing. And as YankeeTarheel said above Guinness Zero is a ridiculously good stout. I had another NA stout last night from I think Summit Brewery -- also very good. The stouts somehow translate well to NA versions. Honestly, so do the cheapo American beers. Other stuff -- not so much so far. O'Douls and similar are undrinkable. I had to spit out an NA IPA (was never a big fan of regular IPA's when I was drinking). I love your endorsement of Old Milwaukee NA. Me too. No kidding. I know what it is -- a nonalcoholic version of a cheap ass beer. But ice cold after a run or a few hours of yard work -- it kind of hits the spot.
Re: No Remorise for BUD LIGHT
21Anyway, back to the original conversation -- good for Bud Light. Everybody be yourself -- and f*ck anyone who wants to stop you. End of the day, Anheiser-Busch is a big capitalist monster that's going to serve itself just like the others, so I'm not going to worship them. And their effort here is pretty minimal. But still, any company that wants to say let's open the circle up wider than we did in the past -- good for them.

23While I admire Bud for their stance, I'll never have any in my fridge due to their attempt to destroy Spoetzl Brewery makers of Shiner Beer. Gambrinus Co. CEO Carlos Alvarez bought Shiner in late 80's. Gambrinus distributed and made Corona the best selling foreign beer in USA. From circa 1995 thru 2018 I did a ton of work at Shiner brewery during their initial expansions. Then AB tried to buy Shiner, Alvarez refused. Then AB bought Modelo and took Corona distribution away from Gambinus as punishment and hopes Alvarez would capitulate and sell Shiner. All it did was piss Gambrinus off. Shiner Beer is probably the largest craft beer maker in the USA today. Their expansion has been enormous and Spoetzl is no longer a small hometown brewery. InBev/AB can kiss my ass, but I wish them well in their quest to fight the bigotry of republicans and their ilk.

25I don't know Shiner Beer, but your story fits right in with my feelings about this whole thing. Anheuser Busch is just another big shitty corporate monster. No worse, no better than the rest. But that's all.Wino wrote: Thu May 25, 2023 1:39 pm While I admire Bud for their stance, I'll never have any in my fridge due to their attempt to destroy Spoetzl Brewery makers of Shiner Beer. We kind of need a lot more than this. We all need to be working hard to protect our neighbors when they're singled out. Right now it's our LGBTQ+ and especially trans friends that need us. We can't count on corporations to lead the way. That's not what they do.
