2The contents, 357 not sold in box! LoL.
Re: Lock Box
3I don’t believe this will stop anyone determined and equipped. It will slow down a person taking advantage of an opportunity. That said I don’t intend to use it much, but thinking of getting another for my other car too. I don’t like leaving a gun in a car and have not and have had to think ahead more for my day’s activities. This will give me a bit more choice.
Re: Lock Box
4There is an option to make it more difficult for the weapon to be stolen, unless you plan on keeping the box portable. That is to bolt it to the floor in home or car, or to a wall. You'll need to drill mounting holes with a case-hardened bit, then mount. These are really very useful. Good score.

5Not really interested in bolting it to the floor of either of my cars. I figure I can make the cord so short that the only way to access it at all is to move the seat forward. That's the best i can do.CDFingers wrote: Thu Dec 29, 2022 2:52 pm There is an option to make it more difficult for the weapon to be stolen, unless you plan on keeping the box portable. Re: Lock Box
6Considering this is my first portable lock box it's a step in the right direction. It's going to be slow to access, but the only reason I need it is for the instances where I might risk becoming s felon if it isn't used. Frankly, I'm of the opinion that if someone gets a carry license, they should be able to carry everywhere.
Re: Lock Box
7I have one which I use when traveling, I got the combo lock and not the key lock maybe a mistake. I wanted the polymer one they have, but it's not approved in CA. I loop it around the base of the passenger seat and cover it with something so it's not visible from outside. I either put a SIG or a CZ and sometimes I'll add the Beretta Tomcat so I have options.
You got it for a bargain, IIRC I paid $22.00 for mine.

8I figure I don't want one with a fingerprint lock or combo, both would be more inconvenient than a key to me.highdesert wrote: Thu Dec 29, 2022 3:53 pm I have one which I use when traveling, I got the combo lock and not the key lock maybe a mistake. Better than nothing I'm thinking.
Re: Lock Box
9I have a combo lock box like this under the seat of my truck. It only ever gets used if I'm out and about and have to go into a place where I can't carry, though I'd be willing to use it in a pinch to lock up small valuables, too, like if I went to a beach and wanted my wallet left some place realtively safe.

11CA law
My vehicle is a hatchback. I'd rather have the "locked container" with a gun in the front, in case I need it. Good idea Eris, about stowing other valuables in it.
Where did you get that bargain price sika ?

Re: Lock Box
12They are selling at Academy for under $10. At that price went and picked up three more.
Re: Lock Box
13Good price on those units. I have used a couple of GunVault (now owned by Cannon) GV300's w/combo for years. The cable is SS aircraft cable and regular dikes will not cut and suspect most thieves not prepared for event. A screw driver will work to pry open (I know - had to do so when combo failed). My cable attaches to F150 driver side door hinge and box kept in door side pocket along with (2) full magazines for whichever EDC I carry. Only good to prevent snatch and go. Never store or leave gun in box whether outdoor or closed garage. Just when I can't carry into building. Pisses me off when Doctor doesn't keep appointed time and makes me leave gun unattended too long for my likes. GV/Cannon have been very good about replacement - when I had to destroy one to open they replaced No Charge. They have also sent me new combo lock no charge. These are better than nothing or glovebox/console.

Re: Lock Box
18I think it’s suitable for the quick lunch where guns are not wanted or a post office run. It’s not a long term deterrent lock box. Also good I’d think for keeping toddlers out if supervised.

There is a version of that that comes with a sleeve that's intended to bolt to the car in some form or fashion. We have one for each of our cars. The one in my car is mounted, well, in a place I won't describe.
As observed, it won't stop a determined person. If I'm going to be locking my gun in my car safe, I usually do so a mile or two from the bank or post office or wherever, so that someone in the destination parking lot doesn't see me putting it there--if they don't know to look for it, they are less likely to look for it.
Eventually I'll figure out this signature thing and decide what I want to put here.
Re: Lock Box
20Bolt cutters, hacksaws, and crowbars are cheap, easy, and quiet. If I have to resort to power tools, it will take me a little longer. A little. The electronic lock on my gun safe has been giving me some trouble lately, but the analog key still works. Cutting the thing in half would be the work of an afternoon.
Locks and codes aren't security. What they insure is the amount of time, effort, and investment in appropriate tools to circumvent them. Secrecy is slightly more effective, but we don't talk about secrets in public forums online.

Re: Lock Box
21Yep. Locks, codes, and such make it somewhat more of a hassle to steal the stuff "protected" by the locks, codes, and such. That's what the guy meant when he told me that "locks keep honest people honest" back in my teen years.wings wrote: Sun Jan 01, 2023 9:26 pm Bolt cutters, hacksaws, and crowbars are cheap, easy, and quiet. And your last comment is why I don't talk much about where the lockbox is. Or the safe(s) in my house. Or, in any place other than this forum, where my holster is...

22I bought the kids a Vaultek Lifepod when I saw them at costco. Kinda mid-level security and tech as lock boxes go. There's bigger and better but around 100 bucks it's a great deal.

23In CA the state AG has a data base of approved safe storage cases. If you're going to fly with handguns, they have to be locked in a gun case that has to be TSA approved. I've found that CA and TSA don't always agree.

Yup, CA thinks it's a separate country until it wants federal funds and it has to conform.
