Well gotta spend some money on sumpin since I'm not buying guns through FFL's anymore.
Bought 200 rounds of this Ammo Inc a few months ago and it ran very well in my Vaquero. Plus I love shooting flat nose in my handguns. The big LGS didn't have any LC in stock, looked online last night and decided to wait. Glad I did my old standby Big 5 Sporting goods had the same stuff in stock as last time. actually a couple ducats lower than the Fiocchi I was going top buy last night on cheaperthandirt. Plus no shipping.
Next step is buying reload stuff I guess. Been saving the brass. I told the wife I'm gonna start reloading and got a smerk. hehe
Oh, just noticed its made right up the street in Scottsdale AZ. Least thats where corporate is. Ahh, edit The new State of the art ammo plant is in Manitowok Wisconsin. Made in USA!

2I gotta break out my reloading stuff. My last box of .45 Colt was $60, and my last purchase of .38-40 was $75 per box...ouch!!!
If you're going to start reloading, .45 Colt is a great one to start with. Its about as easy as handloading gets, and you really have to go out of your way to get bad results. A dipper full of Unique, a big ass bullet on the end, proper seat & crimp and you're on your way.

Re: 45LC Ammo
5Nah, Lee has a whole series of dippers. I made my dipper out of a .45acp, cut down and soldered to a piece of 12ga copper wire for a handle. I've got the motion down: dip one, tap twice, and dump it into the funnel. I use a single stage press and make one round at a time all the way through. I never make misteaks that way.

Re: 45LC Ammo
6The dippers are how I did my first 1,000 rounds of ammo. The first 500 were a loading of .357M, and the rest were a SAAMI-spec .45 Colt load. It's the old-school way to reload, and it's worked well for a very long time.
The .45 Colt cartridge will quickly put one into the poorhouse unless one reloads. As a frequent shooter of the cartridge, I can attest to this. A Lee Classic Turret Press with the Pro Auto-Disk Powder Measure is one of the best tools for doing so, as far as the balance of speed and accuracy goes.
BTW, pretty nice lookin' sixgun there, tonguengroover.

Re: 45LC Ammo
8I was actually thinking more along the lines of being able to create loads between the dippers with my comment. I am limited to the kinds of powder I can use because I use the dippers rather than one of those new fangled powder gadgets. Can't even think what they're called now. That said, I've been thinking of making my own dippers, but I can't figure out how to make them the right size. How did you figure out the size to cut your .45acp down to?CDFingers wrote: Fri Nov 04, 2022 9:34 pm Nah, Lee has a whole series of dippers. Lee Precision Anniversary Challenger Kit II https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0016 ... UTF8&psc=1
Lee Precision Carbide 4-Die Set 45 Colt
LEE PRECISION Modern Reloading 2nd Edition New Format
Winchester 231 Smokeless Propellant Reloading Powder - 1 lb. two of those for 79 bucks total. I thought that was a good price.
Oh and nothing to do with reloading a Magpul MBUS PRO LR Adjustable Rear Sight for my new AR
I didn't see CT's post about the Lee Classic Turret Press until this morning but I think the kit I bout seems sufficient for now.
Looked for large pistol primers and couldn't find any from any source I deemed reputable. Need some help there.
I have a digital scale I use for measuring CaCl test kits that should be ok to check the powder.
There is a dipper that comes with the carbide die set.
So what else do I need?

Re: 45LC Ammo
10That is the excellent question. I had already been loading for my old milsurps, so I had a scale. I developed the most accurate load using the scale, which took a couple months. Once I had that load, I weighed it and dumped it into a .45acp case, tapped it twice, and marked the level on the outside of the case. Then I sawed off the top, leaving it a bit big. Then I kept weighing and filing and pinching the case until I had 8.5 grains of Unique in there consistently. I smoothed it and soldered on the wire.wooglin wrote: Sat Nov 05, 2022 10:27 amI was actually thinking more along the lines of being able to create loads between the dippers with my comment. Re: 45LC Ammo
15For all rounds that I shoot except for .22LR, I have the ability to cast my own bullets. For all handgun rounds that I shoot, I *do* cast my own bullets, including for .45 Colt and .45 Auto. My bullet of choice for SAAMI-spec .45 Colt, and for .45 Auto, is the 200-grain LRNFP cast out of a Lee 6-cavity mould. For the ".45 Colt Magnum" round, it's a 255gr cast bullet out of another Lee 6-cavity mould. I've explained in a previous post, I believe sometime last year, why these moulds--specifically the 6-cavity models--are very desirable for casting.

Digital calipers.
A reloading manual (Lyman 50th) is what recommend.
Bullets - I like Missouri Bullet company

You can get other stuff, as you need it. (Tumbler, etc.) but not 100% necessary to start.
