Two more shootings have been linked to a possible California serial killer, including one that occurred in the Bay Area last year. Stockton detectives have now tied seven shootings — six of them fatal — to a single individual. They believe the person is targeting individuals who are walking alone on dark, quiet streets. Last week, Stockton police announced five murders committed from July to September were carried out by the same person; on Monday night, they confirmed two more shootings in 2021.
Stockton police said they have "physical evidence" connecting the cases, which McFadden [Stockton Police Chief] confirmed Tuesday were ballistics matches made to the same weapon used in each shooting.
The victims range in age from 21 to 54; white, Black and Hispanic victims have been targeted. Stockton police say they do not believe robbery, hate crimes or gang violence are the motive. "We don't know what the motive is... This person's on a mission," McFadden said. "It just appears to be very fluid and intentional... We've had male, we've had female. We've had different races. We don't know what they're targeting. We've had people with homes, we've had people without homes."
