You can be certain there are DOJ lawyers and FBI officials all over Trump's southern plantation to make sure only what's permitted on the warrant is removed.

A former federal prosecutor with multiple Trump world clients is now representing the former president in talks with the Justice Department, according to three people with knowledge of the situation. John Rowley, of the eponymous law firm JPRowley Law PLLC, has been involved in communications with DOJ on Trump’s behalf about executive privilege issues related to the department’s ongoing probe of the Jan. 6 attack. But Trump isn’t the only person Rowley represents in Jan. 6-related legal fights. The attorney also represents Trump’s former senior aide Peter Navarro, who DOJ has charged with contempt of Congress for his refusal to cooperate with the Jan. 6 select committee.

Rowley also represents former Trump White House aide Stephen Miller and Trump-allied lawyer Cleta Mitchell in civil litigation related to the congressional probe. He has also represented Rep. Scott Perry (R-Pa.), who was subpoenaed by the select panel. After working as a prosecutor in two U.S. attorney’s offices (including in the Eastern District of Virginia), Rowley joined the white shoe firm Holland & Knight, according to an announcement. He later had stints at Baker & McKenzie, Schertler & Onorato and Arnall Golden Gregory, according to his LinkedIn. Rowley has worked on multiple cases related to national security. He represented a Chinese businessman who entered a guilty plea after the Justice Department charged him with conspiring to smuggle defense articles out of the U.S. And he represented a transportation company sued for its connection to the detention of an innocent man at a CIA black site prison in Afghanistan.

Rowley and a Trump spokesperson did not immediately respond to requests for comment. The news was first reported by The New York Times.

Former President Trump said in a statement Monday that the FBI is searching his Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida, in what he described as a “raid.” It was not immediately clear why agents were present at Mar-a-Lago, but Trump said the property was “under siege, raided, and occupied by a large group of FBI agents.” He added that the agents broke open his safe.

“After working and cooperating with the relevant Government agencies, this unannounced raid on my home was not necessary or appropriate,” he said. Several former Trump administration officials have testified before a grand jury recently as part of the Justice Department investigation into the events around the Jan. 6, 2021, insurrection. The U.S. attorney’s office in Washington did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

Former Vice President Mike Pence said Wednesday he would give "due consideration" to any formal invitation to testify before the House select committee investigating the January 6, 2021, attack on the US Capitol, while hinting at potential executive privilege issues. Pence made the remarks during a Q&A after a speech at the New Hampshire Institute of Politics' "Politics & Eggs" breakfast, a common stop for candidates considering a run for office.

"If there was an invitation to participate, I would consider it," Pence said, after calling January 6 a tragic day for all Americans. "But, you heard me mention the Constitution a few times this morning. Under the Constitution, we have three co-equal branches of government, and any invitation to be directed to me, I would have to reflect on the unique role I was serving in as vice president. It would be unprecedented in history for a vice president to be summoned to testify on Capitol Hill. But, as I said, I don't want to pre-judge, so if there's ever any formal invitation rendered to us, we would give it due consideration."

While Pence said it would be "unprecedented" for a vice president to be asked to testify on Capitol Hill, presidents and vice presidents have testified before Congress in the past. They include President Gerald Ford, who testified voluntarily in front of the House Judiciary Subcommittee on Criminal Justice in 1974 to explain why he pardoned his predecessor Richard Nixon.

Legal expert wants 'full investigation’ after report Secret Service failed to share threat against Pelosi

A former U.S. Attorney is calling for a full investigation into the U.S. Secret Service's failure to share intelligence it had detailing a violent threat against Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi and other top Democrats.

"This is deeply disturbing," says Joyce Vance, who is now a law professor and MSNBC/NBC News legal analyst. She says it "requires a full investigation."
Vance points to a new report from Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW) that finds the Secret Service discovered a violent social media based threat on January 4, 2021, two days before the insurrection, but did not share that intelligence with the Capitol Police until nearly 6 PM ET on January 6.

:sarcasm: Think of the conversation of the telephone call form the Secret Service to the Capital Police,
" Hello this is the Secret Service calling you to remind that a group of dear President Tump's Followers and Supporters will be coming to see Speaker Pelosi today after meeting with the President. We don't think there will be any problems, but if there is please feel free to give us a call. The office is open Monday thru Friday 8 am to 5pm ET. After hours please leave a recorded message and we will return your call as soon as possible.Thank You and have a pleasant day. :sarcasm:

Huh... Disturbingly similar feeling to the Praetorian Guards. We know the Secret Service is rife with bad behavior. Has this frat-boy club attitude cultivated a culture of supreme-leader worship at the cost of service to uphold the Constitution? It would seem to make sense.

Very clear analysis and explanation for TOS’s veiled threat to Garland:

More mafia-talk from 45... It would be boring except that this issue of a public leader of any standing actually threatening a law enforcement agency is deadly serious stuff for society.

Liz’s concession speech today was pretty inspiring but this one portion lasers in one the real threat.

“If we do not condemn the conspiracies and the lies, if we do not hold those responsible to account, we will be excusing this conduct, and it will become a feature of all elections. America will never be the same.

Today, as we meet here, there are Republican candidates for governor who deny the outcome of the 2020 election, and who may refuse to certify future elections if they oppose the results. We have candidates for secretary of state who may refuse to report the actual results of the popular vote in future elections. And we have candidates for Congress, including here in Wyoming, who refuse to acknowledge that Joe Biden won the 2020 election and suggest that states decertify their results.

Our nation is barreling, once again, towards crisis, lawlessness and violence. No American should support election deniers for any position of genuine responsibility, where their refusal to follow the rule of law will corrupt our future.”

Despite her many flaws, she gets it. Even if we prosecute Trump (and that’s a big if), we still have a rogue GQP that is essentially running on the destruction of American democracy.

If these people come to power, they will, by hook or crook, remain in power forever.
Whatever I said above, just pretend I included the obligatory “both sides,” especially if I said something mean about Trump (don’t want to hurt any feelings).

As the House select committee investigating the January 6, 2021, attack nears its final chapter, members plan to meet in person on Tuesday and one of the most pressing questions they’ll address is whether the committee should formally request that former President Donald Trump and former Vice President Mike Pence appear before them.
https://www.cnn.com/2022/09/12/politics ... index.html

They should set aside an entire orange day because that clown will not shut up.

And
The Department of Justice investigation into the 6 January 2021 attack on the Capitol and former president Donald Trump’s attempt to remain in office against the will of voters has taken a new turn with the issuing of 40 grand jury subpoenas to aides and advisers over the last week.

And
"But the fact that Bannon and other MAGA leaders seem shocked that this happened shows to me that Merrick Garland has lulled many in Trumpworld into a false sense of security," continued Aronberg. "This is the kind of slow build that Attorney General Garland has been known for in his prosecutorial career. It's like that boiling frog that doesn't realize the temperature has been turned up until too late."

Tangentially related to this thread.
An Alaska judge ruled on Thursday that Alaska state Rep. David Eastman (R) will likely be found ineligible for office in a lawsuit seeking to oust the Republican over his lifetime membership with the Oath Keepers, a far-right militia group.

In the highest-profile prosecution so far stemming from the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol, the founder of the Oath Keepers and four others individuals linked to the far-right, anti-government group go on trial Tuesday on seditious conspiracy and other charges stemming from the deadly assault.

Stewart Rhodes, who established the Oath Keepers in 2009, and his co-defendants are accused of spending months recruiting, training and conspiring to use force to prevent the transfer of presidential power to Joe Biden. Prosecutors allege the plot included stashing guns just outside Washington, D.C, for a quick reaction force to rush into the city on Jan. 6, if necessary.

The trial, which is expected to last around five weeks, opens Tuesday with jury selection at the federal courthouse just down the street from the Capitol. The stakes are high for both sides.

For the defendants, a conviction for seditious conspiracy alone carries a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison.

This shows how skewed these maga(t)s view the world. Why nobody can reason with them or the orange turd. These people absolutely, w/o any evidence, BELIEVE that the election was stolen..so using any means necessary to overturn the election is the thing 'patriots' do..and to not do that is 'treason'. Just words that these traitors fling about but even now at about 33%, trump crusaders and lemmings, still large and dangerous. Of COURSE, the orange tub of shit STILL yells this at his 'rallies'..

This is going to be a real test case. They've had no trouble charging and convicting people who actually broke into the building but they have yet to attempt prosecuting someone who is accused of planning or facilitating things. Hopefully they can pull it off.

Thomas, the wife of Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas, testified on Thursday before the House Select Committee Investigating the Jan. 6 Attack on the U.S. Capitol.

Following her testimony, Chairman Bennie Thompson (D-MS) told reporters Ginni Thomas still believes the election was stolen. That was confirmed by Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-MD).

"As we talk about and think of the rigged and stolen of 2020 — presidential election, rigged and stolen — I would like to thank a great woman named Ginni Thomas," Trump said. "Do you know Ginni Thomas? Great woman."
