What “Blemished” can actually mean at Palmetto State Armory

So, with whatnot going on in Ukraine, I recently pulled out and checked out my MSR’s. One of them is an original LGC lower with Del-Ton lower parts kit, A2 stock and a PSA “A3” or flat top 20” upper, whichever is more correct to you. I bought the upper I forget when, when PSA advertised it to me, cheap, like 2 or 3 hundred bucks “blemished”. Nitride 1/7 barrel and full auto BCG. I had an idea to re-create (ish) the rifle I carried as a young infantryman, with the option to easily mount optics. When I got it, I looked it over and totally couldn’t find a single COSMETIC “blemish”. I put a carry handle on it, stuck it in the safe and forgot about it for quite a while. At some point I got a good price on a Millet 1.25-4 optic, which I mounted to it and sighted/function checked the rifle. It seems to run fine. It is plenty accurate. What I also noticed was that the front sight/gas block was canted quite badly. I never did try to sight the BUIS, but every time I looked through the scope at 1.25 that canted post messed with my OCD. Bad. When I pulled it out the other day I decided to free float it. Today, I took it apart to doctor the gas block and found another “Blemish”. The barrel nut was completely out of spec and I had to hammer my tool into it to get it off. I think the little semi circles are either not deep enough or slightly too small.

I’m totally not trying to bash PSA. The thing runs and is accurate. Their stuff is affordable and costs about what I think it should with my manufacturing and machining background. I have one of their M-Forgeries, too, and haven’t had any issues with it. I just want to give a heads up as to what “blemished” can mean at PSA. They will find a way to make stuff that was machined inproperly work. Buyer be ware.

My forend is on the way from a company who I won’t name and don’t like, but also had by far the cheapest float tube. I can’t believe what some of them cost and how fashionably fancy they are. I’m trying to do this a cheap as possible because I just want a working tool. I left the bayonet lug and am going to mod the tube so I can still mount one, ‘cause infantryman, and I know how to fight with one.

If you made it this far, you probably know a bit about AR’s. Anybody got any suggestions on what I should refinish the ground areas of the FSB with? It is steel and will rust.

Wow. A reply. I posted for once and actually about guns and got crickets. I do want to repeat that I am not trying to bash PSA. I bought a second. I did watch a you Tube vid today where the reviewer was sent an A2 upper by PSA to review and it also had a canted front sight, which drove hom crazy. Other than that it ran and was accurate, like mine,

I bought a matt black Testors paint maker to fix the finish on the FSB. I am gong to take it into work tomorrow and pretty it up a bot on the bench grinder befor I paint. I’m pretty good with an angle grinder freehand but it can still be prettier and smaller.

I ‘spoke I should post some pics.
