Washington State Spring Bear Hunt Cancelled

The Humane Society and other anti groups targeted WA state whose governor had just appointed two anti hunting wildlife commissioners.

Bears only have a couple of predators, other bears (males kill most cubs) and humans. Typically bears will increase populations until they fill the habitat, then young males will seek new habitat.

I've never had bear meat, and I have to eat a lot of pounds of a meat to really find out what it's like. I've heard spring bear is better than later as they've been fasting all winter and clean their systems with fresh green grass on waking up. Bear season is before spring calf drop which is when all the deer, elk, and moose have their young at the same time and bears having a great nose are the only things able to find the near scentless young.

Anti tell great stories about shooting mothers with young, but bears have to be checked in most states, and it's extremely rare that a lactating female is shot.

Hunting is an activity with an end date, we just don't know when.

It's startlingly good. Like richer, sweeter beef. On the greasy side, so needs more trimming and skimming. Tried to do a ham for Tgiving, but it came out almost like corned beef, which isn't a bad thing.

Regarding the subject at hand, those in favor of canceling the spring hunt have even said that it is a social pressure based move, not a science based move.

I'm not a fan about dragging any animal out of their den and crucifying them just for sport. or fur or meat. Thats not sportsman like at all.
And I don't like shooting predators for sport like people do with coyotes. If your gonna eat the critter then fine by all means follow the law and get a tag.

Long years ago I did something like hunt. Groundhogs seemed to cause some trouble for a farmer and he would pay my friend and me to come and help rid them. Worked with a fellow who ate the things so it didn't seem too bad and the pay almost make up for gas, tires and ammo for collecting the critters.

I would not call it sport by any stretch, as they had no real chance against a scoped .22-250 unless I just sucked at shooting that day. I think about that now and then as I search the meat isle at Kroger's.

It's good to be at the top of the food chain, vegan and carnivore alike.
I ordered a case of optimism from Amazon, but porch pirates beat me to it. Still, chin-up.

Is crucifixion a legal method of take that I haven't heard of?

The issue is that it's not a question of whether it is for food or sport. The problem is the season's tags being removed as a manner of game management for those following the law. It is motivated by "social pressure" rather than science. We over on the left don't put up with that nonsense when it comes to vaccines and mask mandates, so why so many of us do when it comes to game management is startling.

Without the science driven season, that means the population will increase. Aside from increasing rates of starvation and disease to "let nature take its course" while decimating the youngins of other prey species, they'll also become more aggressive about seeking food in human areas. Those objecting to the hunt are going to be the first to complain "something must be done" when their dog gets eaten. Then you get some of the same houndsmen out hunting the bears, except this time, the state is paying a them instead of hunters paying for a tag. Or you get to the point where, like coyotes, the state needs to swing the other way and put a full-on bounty on them.

You know what I mean about the law changing to allow den hunting when it used to be banned.
Other than that game management is ok. However one has to realize the necessity of game management comes from unmanaged spread of civilization. We're wiping out areas that are good for wildlife because ...thats where humans also flourish.

I agree with you there. I'm pro-hunting game management and anti-suburban sprawl. Two leggers can stay in the city and leave the rest for wildlife to flourish. So we can hunt them. It's a worldwide issue. When people think of endangered species and habitat loss, they're picturing big bad evil corporations clear cutting the rain forest before strip mining thousands of square miles at a time. In reality, it's more like rural local farmers competing with elephants for sorghum fields.

Washington is the 13th most populated state; yet we are 28th in the number of Covid deaths and 24th in the number of total Covid cases. Even though WA had three of the first 20 diagnosed cases in the US, the state's quick intelligent reaction to the reality of the situation, under his leadership, kept us from what states like NY and NJ endured early on in the pandemic, and has served us well ever since.
I've met Inslee about four or five times as a delegate to my union's regional council, and my impression of him personally is, he is a soft spoken and honest person,
who sincerely believes we need to face the reality of climate change, and the wholesale pollution of our planet, while understanding the need for a living wage.
I'll vote for him as many times as he runs; especially if he does something about all the fucking rain!

Pfft. There's me, and then the rest of y'all. And I'm definitely not sure about any of it I can't eat.
