This just flew in. Been buying knives instead of guns mostly. This Gerber Mark II always catches my eye. Always wanted one. VN era ones are pretty expensive if you can find one in great shape. Sold out most places. Midway has a bunch. Blade is not really sharp but boy does it have a point. Great for stabbing things.

A couple of my work horses around here:

Becker BK 7 & Ka Bar War Sword. Like the recurve on the war sword & I put ranger bands in it since photos.

I’m a huge fan of Ka Bars (various knife in their offerings) for fixed blades.

I also have a KaNar Navy MK 1 that I love.

Originals are really fine and scary knives. It takes a little work but it's not hard to hone them back to razor sharpness. Unfortunately, double-edged knives like that are not legal in NJ. Damned if I know why.

Yeah thats the origional color there isn't it! It's in great shape too
I do like me a fixed blade. Here's one I got awhile ago. Ruger charged me extra to put their name on the other side.

Of course you would have custom leather. Looks great!

I really like that Mk1! I have a Mk3 Mod 0, but I really like the shape of that MK1 Blade.

Only for the blades that come with the crappy Cordura/ plastic rattle insert type sheath. It amazes me how the exact same “medium to high end” production knife companies (kaBar, cold steel, buck etc. ) will sell some blades with outstanding kydex or leather sheaths and some with the lousy, cordura ones. Those always get replaced. I have an ESEE IZULA and it shipped with a really nice molded plastic sheath that I modified with a Tek clip.

Here's one I built... blade is from an old Stanley plane, handle is carved from the leftover walnut from the coffin I helped build for my best friend who took his own life after returning from Afghanistan a few years ago. A lot of sorrow in this knife, but a lot of joy too...

Thanks guys. There was nothing he loved more than knives and swords. We were both avid collectors of anything bladed when we were kids- throwing stars, spears, bayonets... you name it, we were out there chucking it at a tree somewhere. I lost him and another buddy to that fucking war, and for what?

Looking for the light in the darkness, your friends exposed a whole generation of afgan girls to what could be. Sometimes, that's the spark that lights the fire of real change. The kind that comes from within but is only recognized when the possible is revealed. Your friends took part in revealing the possible.

Don't dwell in the "for what" space too long. They served and did what was in their power to help. Ultimately, it's always been up to the Afghans to change. I suspect a generation of women aren't interested in being stuffed back in a box.

This is a good perspective.
