New York governor Andrew Cuomo resigns after sexual harassment investigation

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, blaming politics and changing perceptions of acceptable behavior, has just announced he is resigning from his office after a state Attorney General investigation found he had sexually harassed 11 women.

Cuomo, after a lengthy statement that included praising himself for having a diverse team, Cuomo announced his resignation will be effective in 14 days.

"I cannot be the cause" of wasted time and money on litigation, Cuomo said, insisting he does not want to be a distraction.

Didn't want to be found guilty.

Yes, exactly what Democratic officials wanted. The Murdoch publications have published a steady stream of articles on Cuomo. Now Kathy Hochul will be sworn in as governor and a new era starts, politically not really any different since it's blue New York.

I'm not sure how resignation absolves him of guilt. There is still an investigation and a grand jury. I suspect he will be indicted, and that's why he's resigning. I think he knows he's in for the fight of his life if he wants to stay out of jail.

It's always infuriating when a semi-progressive pol (we don't have many who are actually progressive) does stuff like abase and abuse staff.

For the record, while I very much want to believe in the "innocent until proven guilty," society's record on trusting complaints regarding sexual abuse is abysmal, to the point that ANY person who is brave enough to come forth with accusations, knowing the way accusers will be treated, gets more credence than the guy accusing George Floyd of passing a fake twenty. In some cases, a preponderance of evidence is enough to justify his resignation.

It is also infuriating to me that when a smarmy repulsican pol is accused, his (and it seems to always be a he) constituents rush to his defense rather than say "Hey, that's WRONG to do that!"
Eventually I'll figure out this signature thing and decide what I want to put here.

At least he finally did the right thing. I suspect there were a lot of committed Democrats in the background that worked hard to convince him to do the right thing...I don't see Cuomo just up and doing the right thing on his own...pretty much ever.

I'm thankful that at least one party has some semblance of responsible actions in US politics.
