Hey Montana folks, I'm headed out to my place near Missoula next week, and I plan to do some shootin'. I'd rather not bring a bunch of ammo with me (especially with crossing in and out of California) but I'm wondering if anyone can speak to ammo availability in those parts... I'd hate to get out there and realize that it's still super dry. I'll be looking for 9mm and .223/5.56 in particular. Any idea what the stocks are like at places like Cabelas, Walmart, etc? Even better, any recs on a LGC in the area that doesn't shoot upon sight of libs?
thanks.

2I know this is wayyyy late but Bob Wards had a great selection the other day.
WELCOME home!!
Missoula was home for a number of years-early 80’s to 1999. As far as shooting ranges I’m not sure anymore. For the most part, nobody really cares about libs…except for the bats in the belfry types. Most folks will be a lot more surprised that a person with progressive views actually has weapons….and pretty cool ones at that!!
Hope everything works out for you and your family up this way.

Re: Ammo Availability in Montana
3hey better late than never! Sorry I didn't get this message while I was still out there or I would have looked ya up. I ended up finding some 9mm and 5.56 at Cabelas for slightly less than an arm and a leg, so I got to shoot to my heart's content out there on the state land behind my place in Potomac, and the fishing in Union Creek was killer. What a wonderful area- I only got yelled at to "Go home to California" twice, but most folks were kind and welcoming.Rayj wrote: Wed Aug 18, 2021 10:32 pm I know this is wayyyy late but Bob Wards had a great selection the other day.

4When I read lamentations about ammo shortages, I am reminded of the trebuchet. You never run out of 200kg boulders.
